Houston wouldn't back out of the deal regardless, IMO. They're getting a first rounder for a guy that they can afford to play < 20 mpg, would have to pay 15 mil and who is a 150% lock to leave them after this year.

Source won't tell us exact details (such a tease), but I think Ajinca is gone. Most of the scenarios I run includes him. Gets guaranteed salary off the books. Ajinca, Babbitt, and Ely gets you to a little over 3 mil. Need another 2.4 or so to do the deal. That's Rivers. Could be Roberts, Aminu, Smith, or Morrow too. Preferably it is not Morrow, because that would cost us our MLE.
@mcnamara247
Exactly. Plus we can add up to 3 mil of our own.
So, lets say Charlotte is gonna straight up sign Roberts for 2.5 mil. We can call them and say, "Hey do us a favor and make it a sign and trade. Here is 500K for your troubles."
Charlotte loses nothing in that scenario, so why not?
I'm too excited to see this. If we have to give up Rivers I wouldn't be mad. We are getting a very good center and we can always sign a decent backup point gaurd if not use Russ. Hopefully after all is said and done we can get some pieces from teams still waiting on LeBron and Melo and trying to dump good players for nothing. If the dominoes of the Big Decision Pt 2 start falling before then I can see us missing out on a lot. Sunday is a long way away in free agency time.
I just don't see the need. I think Withey passes him this year. Bringing in Young too and you can even bring Smith back if you really want. Coupled with Asik and AD getting mins at the 5 with Ryno, I don't see how he would ever play if he came back.
I think it speaks more to how confident the team is with Withey and Young.
I used to think differently, but now I'd much rather Ajinca/Babbitt over Smith. That dude just can't stay healthy.
I really liked what I saw from Ajinca last year and if he's not starting, he can be a great backup big. Gives Young a year to get his feet wet as the 3rd big off the bench. He can't possibly be worst than Steamer. Not possible.
And Asik, Ryno, and AD.
I mean, if those 3 are healthy, should anybody else get a minute at 4 or 5? I understand that you need depth, but seriously, you just have two of those guys on the floor every minute right?
AD and Asik start, Ryno comes in at 6 minute mark for Asik
Asik comes in for AD at 2 min mark.
AD comes in for Ryno at 9 min. mark of 2nd.
Ryno comes back in at 5 min mark for Asik
Using that because when I watched our healthy games, that was Monty's tendency. That rotation.
That is 38 minutes per game for AD. 30 for Asik and 28 for Ryno.
Could tinker here and there, but this seems about right. 4th big might not get off the bench most nights.
I look at it as if you move Ajinca and don't resign Smith, your depth at 4/5 is very thin. That's why I said that about Withey and Young. I'm assuming Asik, AD and Ryno will be relatively healthy this year (praying nothing less than 70 games played), so I'm talking just depth. The hope is obviously that you wouldn't have to rely on the Withey's/Youngs night in and night out.
I think you need a PF for depth. Not a C. With Asik, Young, Withey, Ryno, and AD - you got 5 guys who can play Center in a pinch. Only 2 guys that can play PF. Need to add another PF, not a Center like Ajinca IMO
Haven't Smith and Young both played PF?
Smith is not there amongst my 5. But yes, he can, which makes him a better fit than Ajinca IMO.
Young can defend 4's, but who is the Center you put him on the court with?? Imagine a lineup with him and Withey or Asik - offense would just be dead on arrival. So he almost has to play the 5. Basically, he has to play with AD or Ryno - and really just AD because of rebounding.
Yeah I like the front line of Asik and AD starting. Ryno being the first big off the bench gettting 20 mins a game with Withey (being used for size and shot blocking ability), Young (hustle and defending), and maybe Jason (hustle and spread the floor with his mid range shot) being used as the alternate bigs.
