Thread: 2025 NBA Draft

I like Queens' game. Passes the eye test for me, easily. His measurements are underwhelming though so hopefully he can overcome that.

I really find it questionable we gave 23 and the better of MIL/NO pick 2026? I highly doubt both Bucks and Pels make the playoffs next year. Did a read that right?

Dumars is terrible. Hawks will be getting a lottery pick next year

It’s probably a costly stupid trade, but at this point I don’t mind them swinging for the fences, after years of “building a winning culture”.

Before the CJ/Poole trade I had this dreaded feeling that THIS was the year to fix everything because even though the lottery balls weren't rigged in our favor I felt like we were heading to a future of being a 12th to 16th draft pick team for the next half decade or more. Like, we aren't lottery bad without all of those injuries but we also aren't going to be attracting good FAs, either. We were stuck in mediocrity so we NEEDED to hit on a potential star like Ace, Tre, or Fears.

This current team has potential. A lot of potential. They'll probably be a play in team if healthy...but honestly they're that type of young team that can get a 5th seed because they play hard every regular season game but then get swept by vets in the 1st round because they don't have an extra gear. And it looks like Giannis is staying put so I think the pick won't be amazing.

All that long winded stuff to get to the point that now we have a team that will be fun to watch for two years or so and has a great potential to compete in three years.....or a risk of blowing up in three to four years but that at least lands us in the lottery and I much prefer that to the mediocrity I was staring at last week. Lol

Zion can’t stay on the court, now if he plays 40 games this team may be giving a top 5 pick up

  6. #56
I’m afraid we’re gonna regret giving them the better pick without protections.

We were only the 4th worst team because DJM, BI, Trey, Herb, AND Zion all had injuries.....heck even CJ and Jose missed about 30 games. We were not a lottery team before those injuries. That was our best seven players missing 25 to 60 games each. This team feels better. Cleansed the negativity out. We just need to keep DJM out of the locker room.

I don't know much about these players TBH I don't know anything about them. But what I do know we need somebody in the 7 foot PLUS club the way the West is stacked.

I would say it’s a bad move, but technically nothing has worked out in years. At this point you go with your move *shrugs* lol A gambling man I am, says Dumars.

I’ve accepted #pelslife fully to reach nirvana lmao

Jordan Poole had a great last season. If Trey, Herb, and Zion all stay relatively healthy then I feel pretty good about us being better than the Lakers and Clippers. Way better. They're top heavy and don't have complete teams. That can change before the season starts, though.

I will let it play out. In a vacuum, it seems another stupid win now trade kind of similar to when we brought in CJ before we were ready to actually compete. But this time it's putting the shoulder on a rookie. Maybe we are trying to solidify the big rotation by adding another offensive big man to compliment Zion and see how it goes. I like the player. This team can be okay if Zion can stay healthy. If he can't, we will be right back at square one. Willie has proven he cannot carry the team and we have less talent than before.

I actually do like him a lot. 13 is a stretch though. Dumars got fleeced. We just have to hope he is right and makes me look like a clown for doubting this trade.

Wow what a brutal trade. Dumars decision was laughable itself. Trading unprotected 2026 is a disaster. Asa vs Queen is basically a toss up itself.

They got two players that were projected to go in the lottery. That is a good draft.

I’m in wait and see mode but I am intrigued by the 2 picks we made tonight. It’s a new era in Pelicans basketball for better or for worse.

  18. #68
I have no issues with the two folks we got.
Maybe tomorrow we can add some more scoring.

Her would never have been there at 23. However, it is malpractice to give up an unprotected 1st in a strong 2026 pick (along with the 2026 Indiana 1st we gave up to get the #23 that we traded away as well). Dumars is worse than I feared.

    agree

    Quite
I won't call it terrible just yet. I'm the only one in my little draft party group and isn't all doom and gloom, I'm excited for the season still.
After tomorrow, We shall see that the Pels do dabbling in Free Agency.

  22. #72
I remember Queen now, we need that type of tenacity on the team, I just fear he just to undersized.

  23. #73
I am fine with the Fears pick, but we traded a possible top 10 pick next year and literally used 3 1st round picks for Tractor Traylor 2.0. A less athletic Zion. A player that doesn?t translate well at all to the modern NBA. Joe Dumars is who we thought he was. A stuck in the past friend of Gayle Benson. This group knows how to take care of their friends, but unfortunately, their friends don?t know how to win in the NBA. Get ready for Washington Wizards 2.0, a rudderless ship. Joe Dumars is Billy King 2.0.

The worst thing about this whole night ? Our FO is transparent and the other FOs already figured.

The Derik Queen love was out and Atlanta took full advantage of it. The pelicans are now a target of choice for the other franchise and they know that by pressing they'll get lopsided deals.

Dumars' era is going to be rough, I've endured a lot in the last 20 years as a fan of this franchise, I may take a break in the coming years.

Yeah, the problem isn't necessarily the players.

I wouldn't have picked Fears or Queen myself, but they both have obvious upside. I understand where they have potential routes to success, and in isolation, I get why you might draft either of them. Fears especially - this is a draft that's scant on lead guard potential and while Fears has a huge number of gaps in his game, he's young enough that you can be optimistic and the skills he does have as a slasher and creator are worth a bet. Maybe it doesn't work out, but if it does then that's huge upside. I get it.

But the process is horrible. The decision making is horrible. The trades are horrible. The value propositions are horrible. The players might pop, and I hope to God that they do. They did nothing wrong, it's not their fault and I wish them the best for both the sake of the team and their own young careers. But from a front office perspective, it was a horrible draft night. Really bad.
    Basketball.
