    Pelicans Starters vs backups

Does it seem like our backups play better team ball than the starters? They not more talented but seem to embrace the plan better. Am I the only one that sees it?

The only guy really trying on defensive end in starting lineup is Herb. In 2nd unit we have Jose, Dyson Naji, Murphy, Nance...
It's not only the plan it is mentallity. Of course our starting lineup is better because of the talent, but basketball is played on 2 sides of the court and our reserves bring it on defensive side.

Not to mention CJ doesn’t even try on defense. It’s an immediate energy burst when he is subbed out.

BI, Herb, and JV all played solid defense with the 1st unit.

BI is tied with Dyson to lead the team in preseason steals with 6 and has been solid on ball. JV has played good positional defense. Herb has also been solid especially at the nail and off-ball.

But 2/5 starters being poor on that end can blow everything up. The good sign is it looks like someone took Zion to task and he was at least more active with his hands in the last game.

It's really hard to try and compare starters vs backups when there is obviously so much non-regular stuff going on during preseason play.

Yeah I think the potential for Zion is still there. CJ is hopeless.

Nance, Murphy and Jose have not even played in the preseason.

In fairness, disregard the talent….the starters have barely played together all at the same time.
