I have to admit at the beginning of Summer League, I had written off Dereon Seabron as someone who would never contribute for the Pels.
I was wrong, He deserves a shot to make this team. Great Summer League !

Dyson and EJ were solid.
Matković anchored our D, but still probably needs another year abroad.
I have to say I was surprised by Hawkins, looked scared, boy among men, fingers crossed on that pick.

Oh, and Landers Nolley II can shoot!

Wish we could have seen Liam Robbins but, another fun Summer League !!!!

Not worried about Hawkins. Nolley quietly was nailing the threes yesterday. I hope Robbins shows up in camp. Daniels is still very young and he has improved significantly. The outside shot is still a work in progress. Lidell had a play where he was under the goal and in a position to have his shot blocked; he moved using his butt, got the position, and made the shot. When I saw that I knew he was going to be ok. Seabron's light came on after that first game. Urgency was there and he will go to camp with a legit shot to make the team.

They waived him near the end of last season and re-signed him to a 2 year 2 way deal.

I did think Hawkins struggled a bit, but it appears that his game tailed off after he hurt his knee in the first Summer League game. I noticed he had it in a sleeve for the rest of the tourney, so maybe he wasn?t 100%.

I was pleased with Dyson?s growth, he really looked really poised and controlled. The only negative was his outside shot. But hopefully when you put enough talent around him, his looks will be better.

Seabron was the stand out. It seems like he is a better, cheaper version of Kira. An absolute black hole on offense, but if you just want someone to come in and attack the basket for a few minutes a game in a offensively challenged lineup it appears that he?s your guy.

Out of the 3 main guys (Hawk, Dice and EJ), I was most encouraged by EJ. Dice is about where I expected and we need to see him in the regular season before I declare he has improved one way or the other. You can’t really measure J Hawk based on summer league (apart from maybe the handle) as the guy was obviously a nervous wreck and dealing with some fitness issues (as someone pointed out his knee was probably not 100 percent as well). EJ just looked good. Looked like a guy that wanted the opportunity and finished well. Good touch around the basket and good motor. Shame we didn’t get to see him last year- hell imagine if he had the extra year of experience. He may be even further ahead of where he looks right now. Excited by him.

Yeah that is maybe the one negative I can take from EJ. I am going to go a little easier on him in this regard though as he missed the entire year with a major injury and hasn’t played a minute. The skill is there and I hope the other parts of his game come to life as he gets into NBA condition.

The players EJ most reminds me of are a pair of PJs: PJ Tucker who started 70+ games at age 38 as a PF for the 76ers; and, PJ Washington the versatile offensive PF for the Hornets. They are all in that 6’5”-6’7”, 240pd range with plus wingspans. Tucker is more of a defensive stopper, Washington is more of a scoring threat. But all three fit an increasingly popular prototype at the forward position—more strong than tall with good feet and wide wingspans.

I think EJ’s game will be more like Washington’s but he has to become a better rebounder.

And with Z's known availability problems, its important to have depth there. How comfortable are we with EJ being that guy for the Pels this season?

I’m actually pretty comfortable with that and I think that’s part of the team’s vision for Liddell. For a young guy, he’s an experienced player and smart. I think if Z goes down again, Trey slides into the starting lineup, but I’m ok with EJ getting budgeted 12-15 minutes a night as a back up front court player. I think he can handle it.
