Thread: Playoffs Thread

    NBA Playoffs Thread

I figured that since we aren't in the playoffs this year, I won't be making threads for every game, but it's worth throwing up a generic playoff thread for discussion of all of the other games that are going on.

What are you guys' predictions for the teams to come out of each conference, or the make the conference finals?

Personally, I see a Bucks/Lakers finals, although I could potentially see it being Bucks/Clippers without a huge amount of difficulty.
    Basketball.

One thing I've found interesting is that the Blazers are really on this hype train. Their fans are all over twitter just begging for a first round matchup with LA, and I think it's probably going to happen but the results will not be what they want.

The Blazers have won 4 of their last 5 games: the game they lost was the one game Lillard didn't drop 40+ in

McCollum has apparently got a legitimately injured back, Gary Trent Jr is a specialist getting starter minutes, Nurkic has looked not-great since coming back overall and Melo (Despite plenty of media hype) has been not good at all. The Blazers have been winning purely because Lillard has decided to drop 40 in every single game he plays on high efficiency. He has one-man-willed this team into the playins, and I think he'll be enough to overcome Memphis, but when they run into Lebron it's going to be ugly.

Portland might win 1 game just off the force of a 60 point night from Lillard or something, but otherwise they're going to get turned into paste.

Now that would be a huge amount of fun. I could honestly see it tbh, if a few chips fall their way. Love watching the Nuggets, and given how clutch Jokic has been the last few years I'd love to see him in a finals setting. Still think the Bucks would take it but it would be a ton of fun

I honestly see... Clippers/Houston vs. Raptors

I think the best defense may go btb aslong they don't hit a drought.

Yeah, ready for him to have an 11' Dirk or 18' Kawhi level run, I think he's capable, at 25 . Really just an extended version of last year's playoff run, but with more weapons, though, yeah, don't really expect any team coming out of the west to beat the Bucks.

My favourite players in the NBA to watch are the elite passers. Just watching guys like Lebron and Jokic completely mastermind is beyond fun; it's like watching Neo in the Matrix or something. They have this innate understanding of the game that is completely inaccessible to most people.

Agreed. Just like athleticism is an inherent trait you either possess or don't possess, that sort of high level processing speed and instant read & react ability is something very few people are blessed with (I know im not), and in this sport it usually makes for really really really compelling basketball. These guys are like strategy breakers; There's no defense that can really contain them, because no defense can account for both the scoring & passing threat they possess. Luka too. He's a sophomore and he's basically already unstoppable because he can leverage the threat to score with his passing to an extent that probably no one else in the league can. They're like knights on a chess board that can jump forward and back.

The best passing us usually in the playoffs and it's spectacle to watch.

    First game of the playoffs

I get to watch Playoff Jokic

    Beautiful

So glad the refs didn't give Clarkson that call

  12. #12
Jamal Murray is missing a ton of obvious passes here, looking almost hero ball-ish.

  13. #13
Millsap with the ATO backcut and the Jazz defense just has no clue

    MPJ blows the alley oop

Man, Donovan Mitchell is such a low level decision maker at times.

Talented shotmaker, super athletic, improved somewhat as a passer, but he just plays like a bonehead sometimes.

Jokic with the pinpoint full court pitch to Grant in transition.

Just gorgeous stuff. Very few players can throw outlets like, and fewer can do it one handed.

  17. #17
Jokic has just ridiculous touch around the rim. Nobody is better than him at some of these arcing shots and mini hooks and stuff.

  18. #18
Rudy Gobert is the whiniest man in the NBA, in a field of tough competition

  19. #19
Denver should try and get MPJ as far away from Mitchell as possible. MPJ has legitimate scoring ability but he's about as good at NBA defense as my mother is, it's very very ugly.

  20. #20
I think it's demonstrative of how much of an issue Utah has with offensive creation that Mitchell is going off and yet Utah cannot gain any separation

  21. #21
Mitchell attacks MPJ again, driving from well behind the arc and MPJ has nothing for it other than to foul.

  22. #22
Jamal Murray has started answering Mitchell back shot for shot. Tied with 90 seconds left.

  23. #23
Tie game, Jokic to the line with 26 seconds left

He made them both. Denver up 2, basically one shot clock left for Utah

Mitchell gets fouled. Not a fan of Denver providing absolutely no help on that, just letting Mitchell run from 60 feet straight through into the paint before really getting any real interference.
