Barnes did exactly what many hear doubted and consistently created his own shot shooting a very good FG%. He was literaly the only players teams were worried about hurting his 3pt% but here that would. It be an issue. Having 2 bigs like AD and Boogie would be an even better fit for Barnes then GS imo. While Mathews is the perfect 3 and D SG for this team to start with Crawford off the bench. I don't know if the Mavs want to be that bad for Dirks last 2 years though. Never know sometimes teams go into sell mode so it's hard to predict how available they even are. Acquiring those 2 guys would give us a squad I would feel very good about
That sounds peachy . Now, how exactly do we pay the bill? I would love Barnes & Mathews, just as I would love a home in Malibu. Only problem is- The bat rastards want me to pay for it.

I feel like the only people in the market for KCP now is us and the Lakers. Lakers will offer a 1 year balloon deal. I would offer 4 year $75-80M if we can clear space.

I think Brooklyn is out with the Carroll deal. They like the ideal of a Lin/Russell backcourt and I don't see them just trading Lin to get semi-better, he sells too many tickets and jerseys. They can still pay KCP without trading Lin but that kills their future cap flexibility and won't allow them to take back bad deals for draft picks. I can't see them doing that for a backcourt player.
Atlanta was another option but that team is decapitated, I don't see them handing out any large deals this summer. All they have is Schroeder, Bazemore and scraps. They may tank and rebuild.

KCP would be perfect for us. He's a very good shooter, I think he can get to 39% from 3 in our system. He can attack the rim and finish, very athletic, good handle for position, good swing passer and lobs for bigs. Most importantly he can guard both guard positions at a high level. This will ease the burden on Jrue and allow for him to be more effective on offense. KCP seems like the perfect backcourt mate for Jrue Holiday.

That's a very positive post. Cause at the onset of F.A. he looked like the most ideal fit for our organization. I just assumed it was unreasonable to even daydream. Still don't think we could do it. But in regards to age, skills, size, position .... Really everything. He is ideal. Yes he has been erratic but that's why he is almost affordable to folks

Kcp would be amazing. Perfect fit.

We cannot offer that. There is no way to clear that space given that Jrue already signed his deal. KCP is not really an option for us.

I didn't realize Asik haven't been cleared to play, let alone being in shape. In that case, he doesn't have any trade value. It'd be better to just waive him and stretch his contract like I read somewhere. I believe it'd only be $3-4 mill in dead money for 7 seasons, but would also create 7 million in cap space every year. The dead money isn't a big loss in cap space IF we can use that new cap space wisely on legit talent. That seems like a big if

Where there's a will there's a way. We can use the teams trying to reach the salary floor and picks to dump Asik, Moore and Qpon/Ajinca

Keep in mind Asik only has 2 guaranteed years on his deal plus 3m on the final year of his contract.

So the question is, do we tie up 3-4m over 7 years or ride out the 2 years and only have a 3m cap hit for 1 year after. Maybe at some point his expiring contract even becomes an asset to some team that needs a lopsided traded with non guarantee money.

There's also the potential that he never is able to play ago and we can get his contract completely off the books. Not sure of the full details on that though.

Edit: I looked up what happened with Bosh and what it appears like is the NBA and the Players Association do a joint medical review and if they determine the player cannot play anymore than his contract would be cleared from the team. I think this meeting has to take place 1 year after his last game played.

Asik and the Pelicans can also negotiate a buy out of his contract, but I don't think he had much incentive to do a buyout. Giving up any guaranteed money when he very likely will not get another NBA contract is a hard sell to a player.

First, it would take a significant number of assets to dump those contracts. The Raptors just gave up a 1st and 2nd to move Carroll. Imagine Asik's price alone.

Second, no team has a salary cap figure below the floor level. That includes the Nets after Mozgov and Carroll.

Third, clearing all those contracts would only put us approx. 16m below the soft cap. KCP already declined an offer for 5/80, which was...16m per year.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

I guess our only somewhat realistic options left are trading for Bledsoe or Lin. Unless Demps can pull off something crazy. Or unless Demps does nothing

  15. #1815
Well, Demps did make this bed, so he can sleep in it.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Yep! I hot nothing now. Prepare to go 8th seed if we're lucky. Demps is really screwing the pouch this offseason.

Lmao! Overpay Holiday, use some of our MLE on a second round guard, and sign a euro player. Solid offseason to get us in the playoffs while everyone else is improving.

A lot of you guys need to just relax. The off season has a long ways to go.

Agreed! But the flip side to that coin is that the longer we get in the offseason the less likely good players will be available. Most of the good players are gone early in the offseason.

    1. True but our first rd pick is worth more than the Raptors and Asik's deal is smaller.

    2. Not true, the Nets even after Mozgov and Carrol only have about $80M on the books. The hawks have about $83M.

    3. If we can trade Asik and a top 10 protected pick to the Nets. We can maybe work a sign and trade with Detroit who still needs a backup sg and C. Moore and Ajinca for KCP.
