Gentry said Evans was forced to learn his offense on the fly because he missed most of training camp after undergoing surgery on his right knee to remove bone chips that forced him to miss the first 17 games of the season.
''We had a small sample size,'' Gentry said. ''He never had an opportunity to go through training camp. So we just rushed in, and said, 'Ok', now this is way we play. I think he had some great moments and I think he struggled some.
''I think all of the pieces have to be out there before you can make any evaluation if this piece fits, or this piece does not fit. I think we really never established a pace that we wanted to play with. That was mainly because of the injury situation that we had to adjust to as coaches.''
