I mean, what if we finish the season on a huge 16 game winning streak, beating all sorts of playoff teams and showing real growth? Is that a wasted season even if it costs us a better chance at getting a Ben Simmons, Jaylen Brown, or that Skal dude?

And I'm not even saying the season is lost...just throwing out hypotheticals...

If we went on a 16 game winning streak we would have to only have won 4 or 5 games leading up to this to land those players.
    Highly unlikely.

I don't think it would be a wasted season, but I'd much rather land a top 3 player in the draft, than I would win 16 games at the end of the season if we're out of the playoff race.

Give me the top 3 pick over the 16 game win streak (yet miss the playoffs). I think we all would, right? There aren't any moral victories.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

  5. #105
I would take the 3rd pick, of course.

But you can't purposely try to get it. It would kill the morale of the team and you would have a mutiny.

Again, if (AND ONLY IF) AD gets hurt, then we can have this conversation.

Until we win a game, or this staff shows their competency during chaos, these talks with proceed, and why shouldn't they.

I'm not sure how much lower moral can go at this point. It's not like progress is being made to a point where throwing in the towel would kill and offseason worth of learning.

It's being mentioned that either AD or Reke have to miss time for us to be top 3 bound, name me the last time AD played a full season.

With a superstar in AD, and having Tyreke, asik and q-pon come back, we won't have a shot at a lottery pick IMO

like it has already been said, only way that is happening is if AD or Tyreke are lost for the season.

If Either AD or Tyreke go out for the year, we're picking top 10.

If you miss the playoffs you are in the lottery. So I say we have a good shot at a lottery pick, but I really hope I'm wrong.

ur right, i should have said with tyreke and AD we won't be picking top 10, without 1 of them, we almost certainly will be.

We are all arguing the same thing. Every single one us. Playoffs are out of the question, but that never should have been the litmus test. The goal is to be better of at the end of this season than last. We can do that, but Demps has to admit failure with his young vet group. The theory isn't bad, he never could have foreseen the injury situation. But it's silly to pretend at this point. This team should still show signs life with 3 of your top 5 healthy and the 4th playing limited minutes. We have to get rid off guys who can not play defense. We have to get more athletic. We have to do that soon to start the cohesion process all over again. Even if that means trading some big names on the team at pennies on the dollar. I think that's a more nuanced stance than outright tanking.

You have a lot of faith that Reke moves the needle. In an offense based on the 3pt shot, you're banking on a bad shooter to make a difference in a playoff push. I guess what I'm asking is, if they're doubling AD because we have no shooters, how is Reke's return going to change that? The lane is packed because of the defense on AD. Where is Reke going to drive because we know he isn't going to shoot them out of the lane.

The most overused words on Pelicansreport.com. Wrongly, I might add.

ELITE - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

GREAT - notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding

These words should not be used lightly

Only thing I disagree with is the importance of making the Playoffs. Not necessarily for team chemistry, but FA's will see us missing the Playoffs as taking a step back. If we are keeping the same core we need a big time FA.

To your overall conclusion I buy 100%. Blow it up now the sooner the better. However if ownership didn't want to take a slow and steady approach 3 years ago I don't see them blowing it up now. Hopefully these 3 years has taught them something.

One good thing about the internet, it has erased everyone's brain to mouth filter - meaning, you get to see a pretty accurate picture of the general populace on forums.

Guys, I get it, you are frustrated, and things are not going to plan....

but there is 93% of the season left. NINETY-THREE PERCENT.

We wait sooooo long for this year to start, the hype, the build-up, the excitement.......

And then after 7% of the season is over, the majority of the fan base is already looking towards next year?

Now - reread my first sentence.

Obviously this is not what any of us wanted or expected, but to give up already?

It reveals your true character - just my opinion of course.

I'll speak for myself here when I say that my lack of "faith" in the remaining season has more to do with my projections and evaluation of the overall talent on the roster than on how much season is left.

This offense is predicated on space. Space. Not 3 point shooting. Shooters are needed on the floor, not required for every position.

What create space in an offense? Penetration.
What is tyreke elite at - penetration.

Why does ish fail? Because he can't shoot 3s or because he can't finish anywhere else?

Tyreke pushes the pace, penetrates, puts pressure on defense, and you can't stay in front of him. Now, whether or not he makes the right pass out of these? Who knows.

I appreciate this but if the lane is packed to defend AD, there are no lanes for Reke to drive. This offense IMO is missing an elite level shooter. I will say that with Reke, the break points should increase because that's in his wheelhouse

Gordon and Anderson are both elite level shooters.

oh hey look who missed a game.

Has AD missed 82 games in his career yet? It's getting pretty damn close.

    Truth.

This team could be the hottest thing under the sun when healthy, but sadly we are as likely to find a cure for cancer before we see "The Core 5" take the court together.

Almost wonder, who gets moved first when we deconstruct the team.

ryno and tyreke both have marginal value. Tyrekes deal is pretty good.

the rest of them i feel like we would have to pay to get rid of.

    at least EG is expiring.

Who contributed to that first win? The Jimmer signing and Ish's gameplay has changed the attitude of this team for the better. Great effort tonight even though we lost.

AD has missed 48 games so far and has been treated with kids gloves until last year.
