Thread: It was fun while it lasted for Jimmer...

I love the Jimmer fans on ESPN complaining that Rivers sucks and isn't passing to Jimmer as Rivers goes 5-8.

  2. #152
i can't believe Monty is letting Jimmer play. I knew he was a bad coach.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

As long as they stay there that's a win for us.

We are now 2-0 when Jimmer gets more than 4 minuets.

    Keep it up boys!

Honestly, I think there's something to this. Let's forget about Jimmer for a second.

More minutes for Jimmer= less minutes for Gordon. Less minutes for Gordon= increased chance of success.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

14 minutes.... ZERO SHOTS!!!!! sorry, but hes not even trying to shoot at this point, that off night in game one rattled him a bit i think, and i know that even though shooters have to shoot to get out of a slump, he hasnt even begun to try to shoot out of it. he had looks tonight, and couldve done more to get better ones... hes not playing with confidence right now, even gordons trying to shoot his way out of his terrible start... jimmer should maybe try this???

I actually agree that Rivers is doing a disservice by ignoring Jimmer on offense. The guy can shoot. And with a team like the Spurs coming up who can light you up from three, it would do us well to try and improve those 3PA's and that 3p%. Plus, as I said in the gameday thread, having both Ryno and Jimmer keeping defenses honest will only help out Rivers inside attacking.

Right now our bench play is pretty predictable. Either a Rivers attack or shot or a Ryno shot or post attack. Everyone else just seems to stand around.

I stayed at the game til the start of the 3rd. Jimmer had open looks but his teammates didn't pass him the ball. I imagine that at some point his teammates will find him and he will get more shots.

One thing you can't deny, Monty will pull a guy if he is playing bad defense, and Jimmer has two games of 16 min.

i think jimmer will sit around 10-14 min per game this year when all said and done, we added him for a reason.. he'll play, and yes, if he were getting blown by every play, hed be on the bench, his low minute games have been about matchups more than anything, on most nights jimmer sees 12-15 min, should be taking 3-5 shots, mostly 3's... i want to see this... and im no jimmer fan or hater for that matter, i just want him to contribute in the way we envisioned him contributing...

Yeah, I am neither here nor there on Jimmer, but if he is to be Morrow it would be nice for his teammates to see him as such. But until he gets shots to fall, he is just some guy Monty is burning minuets on.

  12. #162
Wish we still had Morrow, he would be better than Gordon in our starting 5.

I still haven't seen the terrible D from Jimmer that was talked about, although he's mostly playing against backups

Jimmer is not going to contribute too much if it all.

We're also 2-0 whenever Jimmer has a foul and doesn't make a field goal. Keep that in mind as well.

I hope he does well since he is on our team. It will only make us better. I think he will help us once he gets used to our style of offense. We are a bit too individual, which is why we lose to the better teams.

Which will only improve over time. I actually think last night was our least 'individual game", we had a season high in assists and I thought the ball moved around OK. There were a couple of times Evans should have passed on fast breaks but other than that I thought we played good team ball for the most past.

Right now we aren't better than Dallas or Memphis, I see that changing by the end of the year. But right now we are better than Orlando and Charlotte, those are the teams you have to beat consistently. If we can keep winning the games we are supposed to, come Jan/Feb when I imagine we will be at our best, we will start to beat the Dallas' and the Memphis'. Last year we did not beat the Orlando's or the Charlotte's consistently, you can blame it on the injuries and that's fine, I'm just saying.

We overmatched those teams physically IMO as much as good basketball. It is no doubt a step in the right direction and if you win the games like these it makes that incremental improvement against the best all the easier. You must beat the teams that aren't as good as you. We seem a little close on some of our pick and roll offense. Rivers did a good job negotiating it against this team.

I said it after game 2. I think Jimmer didn't take a shot last night in large part because he doesn't want another DNP if he happens to miss a couple. Monty ruined his confidence by benching him after his bad shooting on opening night. Now Jimmer's looking over at Monty every time he catches the ball.

Like I said, if you show a player you have no trust in them by putting them on the bench after a mistake or two, you do more long term damage than you might think.

Also, as a coach you need to get your team practicing plays to look for Jimmer on the perimeter. Last night, nobody acted like Jimmer existed on offense. If there's one thing Jimmer can do, it's score on offense, yet nobody is giving him that chance. Yes, he'll be a wasted trade if he's not utilized as a shooter.

That being said, Jimmer has been better than average on defense in his showings. He's picked up a couple fouls, but I like to see that. He's being aggressive and attacking guys on the perimeter instead of waiting for someone to blow by him.

He was a FA signing, not a trade. If a veteran player loses his confidence that quickly, he does not need to be in the NBA. The team as a whole has an issue right now with ball movement and getting some players involved. It is early yet, he may work himself into a role.

I was going to say ridiculous, but instead I'll just say this is wrong. If a shooter's confidence can be ruined after 1 game then he shouldn't be in the NBA. Ryno shot 2-14 against Memphis, the next day he shot 7-12. You know why, because he's not a little ***** and his confidence doesn't get ruined.

This isn't ballet, this is a grown man's game.

I'm sorry but any coach who practices plays to only look for their 8th or 9th option then they are dumb. If Jimmer get's open and better options are not avaialbe on a play, the ball will find Jimmer. Stop this madness please.

I was at that game last night. Jimmer didn't take shots because his teammates didn't see him. He was open but they didn't see him.

As the season goes on he will get more play.

Think of Morrow last year, it took half the team being injured before he got any play, and when he finally did he was solid. I think the same will happen for Jymer, only Joomer is getting more play early than Morrow did. Maybe Monthy sees Jermer filling a bigger role than Morew.

Ryno didn't get benched after going 2 for 14 either did he? Neither did Gordon after laying eggs in 4 games now. Neither did Rivers after 3 poor showings. That's the difference.

And he was open, plenty of times last night, but he didn't get the ball. Either players aren't seeing him, or they aren't being coached to look for him.
