I don't understand why Monty gets so much hate on here and has respect around the league. I mean he has had to deal with alot of turnover every here he has been here. I am confused as what was different from what he said and I said. You guys misread my post IMO. I never said they were discussing Gordon. It was simple process of elimination. We know it will be Rivers, Gordon, or Ryno. If it aint Ryno, then......

Mason said all he heard is that it is not Ryno (thereby assuming it has to be Rivers or Gordon). Those are different. Although the assumption is certainly reasonable, the first comment makes it seem like he has heard something specifically rather than through process of elimination. That's the only difference.

Even if the cap increases just enough to absorb his contract, that leaves the team with JUST the room exception. And everybody will have been waived or cut. No Bird Rights, so no sign and trades. You would have the room exception and min. contracts to improve the roster.

Making one of these trades not only gives you the room, but it helps you keep Bird Rights, the MLE, and the BAE. So, even if the cap is somehow higher than projected, it wouldnt make sense for Dell to just absorb the contract and kill off all his ways to be aggressive.

This would make the Pelicans almost impossible to trade with in the future. If you tell a team you will do a deal and then back out because you messed up, it would blackball your franchise.

If it somehow got to a point where they couldnt give away Rivers or Gordon or Ryno, they could stretch Austin Rivers and have enough to get the deal done. But I dont think we have to worry about it getting to that.

Exactly. It has to be a deal that lets us preserve other options to fill out the back end of the roster. You would lose Ajinca, Withey, Babbitt, Roberts, Smith, Morrow, Miller, and Aminu with only the room exception and the min. exceptions to fill the rest of your roster out. That just wouldnt make sense and it wouldnt allow Demps to be aggressive at all.

Is it that whatever we are doing to get the space can't happen until free agency starts or that we have t decided what we're doing? Obviously Dell must have an option on the table that works or the Asik deal wouldn't be this far along. So can it just not happen, or is Dell maybe still trying to find a way to make space he likes better?

My guess is Dell has a deal he could make to trade Ryan (possibly with Phoenix), a deal he could make to trade Rivers, and is hoping he doesn't have to do either and can either A) trade Gordon or B) convince Loomis/Benson that stretching Gordon is only/best option. If nothing happens with Gordon, they'll pursue Rivers deal and if for some reason that falls apart, they'll do push for more assets and do a Ryan deal.
