It's risky to stay the course with Gordon but he already has all the tools (defense, jump shooting) that we are hoping Tyreke develops and then has all the skills Tyreke already possesses. Also what makes anyone think that Tyreke will develop a jump shot? What's been stopping him from doing so the past 3 years?
If you will excuse me, I have to go return some video tapes.
I'm not advocating for signing Evans I'd rather keep Gordon for the time being and sign Webster/Wright/Budinger or someone along those lines to play the 3.

The more I've thought about this move the more I'm starting to worry this move is akin to the Dell Demps move that wanted to trade Chris Paul for Louis Scola, Lamar Odom and Kevin Martin. And not the Dell Demps that found us overlooked gems in the rough like Jason Smith, Vasquez, Lopez and got Ryno on a favorable contract.
I'm hoping there's a bigger play at work here cause I think such a big contract to a guy that has so many flaws in his game and hasn't shown steady progress since his rookie year is a dangerous gamble that could very well handicap us in the future and hurt our chances at building a true contender around Davis.
I feel like Dell has those "win now" eyes again that led him to look toward the short term with the cp trade that was gonna net us aging talent on bad contracts. He's at least approaching things smarter then that mixed trade in that he's going after young talent and not old but I do think he's determined to put a playoff team together now and I'm worried he may be gambling on long odds that could hinder us from recovering in the longterm if these gambles don't work out.
I guess I just hope there's a much bigger play at work that I'm not seeing.

Honestly I think Vasquez is a more capable player if using him off the bench similar to how some are projecting Evans will be used. Granted Evans has more potential but Vasquez is an adequate shooter, is pretty decent at getting to the rim despite is slow footedness and can run the offense when coming in off the bench also he will cost about 9m less and can be traded for another asset at any time.
If Demps pulls off the Jrue-Gordon-Evans combo with a cheap shooter at the 3, I will fly down there and buy him lunch. Or something.

Out of these 3 potential players who do you guys rank them? Personally I'd put Holiday at #1 b/c of his durability, ability to run an offense, elite defense and versatile offensive game. #2 Gordon: for basically all the reasons I have Holiday listed at 1 besides the durability and PG abilities. #3 Evans: Great at getting to the rim and is a decent passer but other than that is extremely one dimensional at this point.
Yeah if I'm paying 10-12 million a year for a Manu type player that's gonna get 20-30 minutes max he better be nearly as good as Manu ginoboli. I mean good defender, good shooter, great scorer and can meld perfectly with the starters in crunch time. I don't get that from Tyreke. And we're bringing in a guard on a team that already has a surplus of them.

No, but they do have the ability to shaft us. They can wait the 3 days if Tyreke decides to sign to make the decision of matching or not. That time effective eats up our capspace and will allow Iggy to get snatched up by another team. Then, depending on how evil they feel, they can match Reke at the last second so we miss out on everyone.

What's with everyone overrating other players and underrating our own. Gordon has ELITE talent. Evans' production has faltered ever since his rookie year and has a weak jump shot. Please. You'll be crying for EJ back if we ever trade him and decide to go the Evans route. I don't see what's so special about this kid.
I really hope the Pelicans sign neither Iggy or Evans. I just don't see either of them drastically improving the team enough to be worth it. The Pels have a good core to build around in Davis/Holiday/Gordon/Anderson right now. They should IMO only sign a mid-level SF and see how the team works this season and if their is noticeable growth and then look for opportunities to upgrade and re-tool. Trying to go from lottery team to quasi-contender overnight will only hurt the development and limit flexibility all the while possibly blowing our wad too early like in the CP3 years. A contender isn't built overnight except in the case of the Heat, they're built methodically over a few seasons. I'm not advocating tanking as I want the team to make the playoffs this coming season but I prefer time to actually see what needs improvement before fixing what might not be broke.

Every team waits until the final day to match. It's common practice. Considering that the Pelicans drew up a contract that would discourage Sacramento from matching, you'd expect Sacramento to take their time to make that decision.
It's very clear the Pelicans #1 guy during the free agency period is Evans. We're all in on Evans so if it doesn't work out then Demps will have to come up with another plan. We are basically shedding salary from productive players like Lopez and etc. to make this deal work. There's no turning back once the offer sheet is agreed upon. We will lose Lopez whether the Kings match or not. For Demps to take a gamble like that, that contract him and his staff came up with has to be close to a sure thing.
Since Gordon signed his extension when has he stated he doesn't want to play for N.O.? He seemed excited about the prospect of playing with Holiday and I'd imagine he saw the potential of AD as well. Gordon did seem lackadaisical last season but that could very well be from not being in shape and coming back from missing close to a full season. At this point I wouldn't necessarily blame him though if he doesn't want to play b/c I think the front office has handled the situation very poorly. Hell, they didn't even mention him PR releases from a couple weeks ago, and never consulted with him before we matched the Phoenix offer. Also Monty seemed very dismissive and contemptful towards him at the beginning of last season once it was reported that he wouldn't be ready to go at the beginning of the season. Not to say Gordon has been a perfect angel and doesn't deserve any ill will but I'm ready to give him until the trade deadline.
I suspect Sacramento met with Evans to try and discourage him from signing our deal, otherwise they'd just have reiterated "go find your value and we'll match." I think if Tyreke wants to leave, they'll let him bounce. Him being "encouraged" by the meeting could be him trying to drive up his price.
My thoughts so far: I have no idea what the **** is going to happen and what the final plan is, so I'm deciding to just hold all judgment and just wait. There are way too many variables right now to really come up with an opinion until we see everything finalized.

Signing Tyreke to anything near 10million a year is idiotic. I don't need numbers or statistics to back this up. It's simply idiotic. The Kings aren't going to be matching anything on Tyreke. Which is really all any organization needs to know in regards to if the player is worth it. When's the last time a team let a young guard just walk out the door --- and that player turned into something special?
Pelicans should just sit tight and sign a plethora of SFs. Iggy's intriguing, but at the end of the day, a small market team needs to maximize its money -- which means no overpaying anyone. Holiday's on a great deal. He's going to be earning roughly as much as Tyreke and there's no comparison as to who's better.
