Thread: Pelicans to meet with Tyreke Evans (offer has been made)

  1. #476
And remember, positions are all about what you can defend.

Evans has a 6'11'' wingspan. Would have no problem covering 95% of small forwards, at least from a physical standpoint. Monty has to teach him the mental part.

But as far as measureables and athletic abilty, he is about as tall and long as Shabazz, but much quicker and stronger. So, if Shabazz was drafted as a SF and his profile is similar to guys like Caron Butler, then Tyreke can easily guard 3's

I was on a kings forum and some king fan took it to mean that he was impressed with our offer. That it's basically a rap lyrics about a girl except he added money at the end instead. I think that's a pretty good interpretation.

I mean, I can definitely see why we would be interested. Throw in the attitude and knee problem, and it's pretty much a no brainer. I just don't know what they are going to do with Gordon.
    Man you forgot another thing..

Games played by gordon in the last 3 years: 107 - By evans: 185

Exactly, positions are more about who you can defend than what you can do on offense.

Exactly. Look at Iguodala and Kyle Korver. What in the world do they do similarly on offense? Nothing. So, how can we call them the same position on offense?

Offense is about skill sets. The reason I don't love Tyreke with Gordon and Jrue is because the skill sets dont compliment each other at all. But on defense, yeah I think those guys could defend the 1, 2, and 3 positions

Evans recently bought a brand new house in Sac suburb. Can't see him wanting to leave if he did that being a FA.

Many players have houses other than the areas they play basketball then. Doc Rivers' "home" is in Orlando.

Pels made their pitch... its out of our hands now and up to Tyreke. I'm guessing 'Reke will weigh all of his options and get pitches from other teams. I can respect that. I can't get mad or upset if we offered him good coin to come to N.O. and he rejects.

Props to Dell/Monty for going after the guy(s) they want.

Houses can be sold. Besides, most athletes have multiple houses

Didn't Dwight Howard just buy a massive 20 million dollar mansion in LA??

Marc Stein (ESPN) says if we can't land Evans we'll go after Martin, who Minnesota is also pursuing.

I'm glad. I am in the MM camp that you can replace Lopez much more easily than what Smith gives you.

Basically he's strongly attracted to our offer. 4/$44m is a lot of new money!

If you dump Gordon (Gordon to Bulls for Deng, Deng to Cleveland for 2nd rounder), you'd have $15m left to play with in free agency.

Paying Evans $3-4m less to play SG than unreliable Gordon would be a coup for the Pelicans.

Honestly, it is much easier for me to get excited about Martin than Evans, especially if contract is 3 years, around 25 million versus Tyreke at 4 for 44.

Martin was very efficient last season and provides the spacing we need for Jrue and AD.

Move Gordon to a team with cap space, sign Martin and Iggy, and I am good to go

I just can't see anyone taking EG after last year.

Martin is no better at reliability than Gordon. We are not talking Sacramento Martin. I'm in for landing Evans or Iggy. Should be exciting to say the least.

I wouldn't mind Martin he just needs to realize he isn't the #1 option here.

I think everybody (including myself) is deathly afraid to see Martin as a defender. He's a bonafied scorer and will DEFINITELY space the floor. he draws ALOT fouls (flops) too.

I like 'Reke's ability to get to the rim and create for himself and others. If we were to keep Gordon we'd have 3 guys in the starting lineup that can create for themselves AND run an effective P/R. We need one more shooter though. Regardless of who we sign (Reke or Martin) we'll need one more SF, and I hope we go after a shooter.

That's a tough decision if its Gordon/Evans or Martin/Iggy. I'd have to go with Martin/Iggy mainly because if the health concerns of Gordon and we'd have additional $$$$ to sign one or two other small $$ guys.

My only problem with the pairing of Iggy and Martin is their age. One turns 30 this year and the other turns 30 next. Whereas Gordon and Evans are both in their mid-20s. But you can bet your last check that Gordon will miss time due to injury though... unfortunately.
