Thread: Would you do this trade?

  1. #1

    Would you do this trade?

I'm not saying this is rumored or even possible of happening, but just for mere discussionary purposes...

It's draft day. The Kings call wanting Gravy, Lopez, the 6th pick and Ryno for DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas, do you make the deal?

There are certainly pros and cons to both. Cousins' off-court issues are WELL doucmented, almost the point where he's delivered the dreaded "headcase" label. However, with his immaturity, he's showing glimpses of being an absolutely dominate center, averaging over 17 points and 10 rebounds (9.9 points in 2012-2013) in two of his first three seasons on the league. He and Davis would be an absolute monster front court for many, many years to come. Thomas is one who adds a speed element to the offense and is also more than capable of being a playmaking PG in the league.

    Do you make the deal?

No, because we would be giving up too much. If we can leave out of the discussion Anderson and or the pick, then I would consider it.

If Ryno is removed and they want GV, Lopez and the 6th for Cousins and Thomas, does it change your mind?

    No, I wouldn't trade our 2017 3rd-round (I know) pick for Cousins.

This would be a deal I could live with.

I would take the second... Maybe consider the first but i doubt i would take it. First is too much and the second wont happen in all likelyhood.

I know Sacramento is in one of those precarious positions where they seem to have grown tired of Cousins' immaturity off the court. The relationship between he and the Kings organization has been contentuous at best almost since the moment they drafted him out of Kentucky. He's a tremendous talent, but I think if Sacramento can get an offer that appeases them, they jump.

Question is: if DeMarcus Cousins were in this draft (which he would have been had he done his full four in Lexington), where would he rank in this year's draft? After three seasons of productivity, is the risk of his moodiness and brooding worth the reward of getting a 18-10 guy with still a ton of upside? For those who feel GV is too slow on defense, would Thomas' quickness make this deal worth pulling the trigger on? To me, Cousins is a HUGE upgrade from Lopez and has upside to be even better. Thomas-GV is somewhat of a wash, and the sixth pick is more or less compensating the difference in talent and upside between Cousins and Lopez. I know the Kings have been in talks with Cleveland, Charlotte and Dallas. All have picks in the lottery, with Charlotte and Cleveland having them in the top four. Seems like Sacramento wants that extra lottery pick in a draft class considered suspect.

Upon careful reconsideration, I don't want Ryno in it. However, with him out, I do the deal... Easily. For all his troubles off the court with management, coaches, etc... I have NO question in my mind that he and AD would be the most dominant front court in the NBA for many years to come. Thomas would be nice too.

I do the deal. Cousins is too good to pass up, Greivis and Lopez won't be around in a couple years anyway, Ryno while good doesn't have good D.

Not the kind of player (mentally, maturity-wise) Monty Williams would want to deal with.

Trick them into giving us next year's lotto pick. And I'll do it.

I would do it in a heart beat the first one... That would be a major upgrade for both the 5 and the 1 spot

Do you consider him an upgrade at all? Imo he is an upgrade over Gravy

This is one of the best never-actually-going-to-happen trades I've ever seen proposed on here. It actually mirrors what a legitimate NBA trade looks like. I would probably take it, but I would be saying 10 rosaries every night hoping that I didn't just lose my job.

If we were the LA Pelicans (which I guess would live among its many lakes) or the NY Pelicans, I'd do it in a second. The trade would free up a ton of salary (after cap holds, we'd have something like $28m in space), allowing us to go after CP3 + another good player, or load up on good FAs/ available players (Deng or Granger, Jack, etc...) before giving Cousins his big contract in 2014. Unfortunately, being the NOLA Pelicans, we don't have the fan base to be over the tax, and likely won't be able to lure CP3/have to overpay those good but not great players. Take Ryno or the #6 pick, and I'd do it. The pick should turn into a good, cheap player and Ryno has a very reasonable contract for a very good 6th man, so those would make up for the upcoming Cousins salary jump.

    New Orleans Pelicans-Seattle Seahawks-Atlanta Braves-Anaheim Ducks

**** no. You're giving up the whole team for a headcase and a midget downgrade at PG. If that trade was made, I'd be on my way with the pitchfork looking for Dell's head.

Let's not exaggerate. The only asset in there really worth fretting over is that first.

Don't know why people act like Ryno can't be traded.

I have no problem trading him, just not when we are giving up way to much in a trade.

I think Thomas would bring more offense since he's a better scorer than Vasquez and doesn't turn it over as much, but his defense is pretty bad too. That said, he would be easier to watch than GV who's a pain to see on the floor with his lead feet going 2 mph.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

Last year he had 1 less turn per game over GV, but GV had 5 more assists per game. The A/T ratio is greatly in GV's favor. But I do like Thomas as a scorer and agree on his defense.
