Man you guys are full of it. You don't think he tried to recruit players to come to New Orleans. No star wants to come to a small market team. Just think back and tell me what all pro basketball player within the last few years that was a free agent chose to sign with a small market team. None.

If that's true then basketball players are even bigger brain dead morons than I thought. New Orleans is not Des Moines, Iowa. This is one of the most unique and fun cities with some of the most die hard fans in the world. What big name free agent have we thrown money at? They care about one thing.....green. If New Orleans is offering more than New York and has players like a Chris Paul on it they will come. Maybe he just can't sell it because he is that lame. Drew Brees doesn't seem to have any problems at all getting players here to this piddly little city.

I remember when the hornets signed Peja, Bobby Jackson and traded for Tyson. Chris Paul's dad was bragging to reporters how the Hornets were surrounding Chris with so much talent. how times have changed.

So lets not resign with N.O. and forgo $24 million dollars? And people wonder why over 90% NBA players file for bankruptcy within 5 years after they play their last game. He basically capped out on a national level as far as sponsorship money goes even if he does get a bounce it will never amount to an additional $24 million. And what happens Charlie when you son blows out his knee and the sponsorship money disappears and he left all that money on the table.

My advice is to hire a better agent to advise your son because these types of statements aren't logically analyzed. You are here today gone tomorrow in the NBA so you better maximize your salary while it's still around or you could wind up looking like a Brandon Roy.

I mean dont we talk all the time in the NBA and in other sports about how much we get annoyed at players that just collect paychecks? Those James Posey's, Albert Haynesworth types. Those players that play out of control for a contract year then get the big extension or FA money only to phone it in for 3-5 years and never play hungry for a championship?

Hate Chris Paul for his handling of this, hate him for being deceptive about his intentions, hate him for being a Laker(if it ends up happening) but I cant see hating him because he isnt a guy who's main motivation to play Basketball is money.

I can only speak for myself, but what annoys me is that Paul can win here. Cap space is clearing, there's a smart GM in front office, and ownership issues are expected to clear up now that new CBA is done. I don't have a problem with NBA stars getting together, that's not as big a problem as the perception that they can only play together in big cities. With ESPN, the internet and youtube, etc., playing in a small market is NOT what is used to be, but if you asked Lebron James, Melo, CP3, and others you'd think the only winning teams that get attention play in Chicaco, LA, NY, etc. America loves winners and they don't care if you play in Smalltown, USA. Across all sports small market teams do fine (see Packers, Saints, Thunder, Spurs, TB Rays, Texas Rangers (smaller budget)).

yes but smaller markets have a smaller margin of error...hopefully it will change a little bit in a couple yrs when the increased luxury tax penalties hit

Everyone raves about the sucesses of the small market san antonio spurs but doesnt the nba finals have some of their lowest ratings when the spurs are winning? the nba/espn/mickey mouse must hate when small markets like the spurs win the finals and the viewership is so down..

People don't watch because the Spurs are boring. It would help if it was a boring big-market team because at least you'd have a larger fan base that tunes in. But if the team is both good and exciting, it can be from anywhere and people will watch (ie: Saints, Packers). You think people would tune in to watch Durant and Westbrook in the finals? Of course they would. Let's not make the Spurs synonymous with all small market teams.
