Percentage of seats filled probably tracks the percentage of Pelicans starters available to actually play over the years. Why buy a ticket when Zion might arbitrarily decide he doesn't feel like playing that night, and we are always missing 2 or 3 other legitimate NBA players? On top of that they installed the laser-like rotating lights that blast most of the spectators in the eyes throughout the game, downgraded the dance team and food and music, and of course raised the prices for tickets and parking. We get the officiating shaft 90% of the time and almost always lose the few games I have attended post-Covid.

I think Joe Dumars is a NBA plant to run the Pels into the ground to ensure that when Gayle Benson dies (less than 10 years), the team is bought and moved to either Seattle or Las Vegas. They need to kill all fan interest so that they can say, “O , the market just isn’t there for the NBA.”

Gayle simply doesn’t care. It is clear every time she gives a fake interview. Both the saints and Pels print money for her no matter how little she spends on them. Why would she stress about any of it?

Gayle has spent an incredible amount of money on the Saints and Pelicans so saying she spends little is just flat out wrong. The Saints lead the league in "dead money" because they did everything possible to keep the ship sailing and win Drew another title and then keep it rolling for a few years after he retired. This is an accounting trick, and sometimes she had to pay cash up front to the players. Did this strategy work? nope, but the money was spent and we are still paying that bill. The latest reports also indicate that she spent around $200 million on the Superdome renovations. That's not little, and more than some owners commit.

In terms of the Pelicans, over the last 10 years or so we are right in the middle of the pack for overall payroll/salary cap spending but recently were as high as top 10 in spending. Have we hit the luxury tax? no. But we didn't have a team worth it. Don't forget how many coaches and GMs we have fired and still paid or bought out (Monty, Dell, Gentry, Van Gundy, Griffen, Green).


I don't think an argument can be made that she's cheap. I think you can make an argument that she's an aggressive spender. But I think she's spending in the wrong places. Lets be clear, the main issue is she's too loyal to her krewe who has mismanaged these funds. She needs to have fresh blood at the top (I am looking at you Dennis and Mickey).

You are counting all the ridiculous contracts that Mickey gave to players at the end of the Brees era as Gayle spending big? There is a salary cap in the NFL which has to be used by league rules. The renovations to the superdome were done to attract super bowls which I am sure she benefits from. The smoothie king center hasn’t been significantly renovated in 25 years. We hire the cheapest head coaches in the league for both teams…. She holds the wrong people accountable for both failing organizations. She allows management for both teams to trade draft picks away like toilet paper… She IS the worst owner in sports. The results of both teams speak for themselves.
