The problem with the organization is a lack of ownership. Gayle Benson is essentially a cardboard cutout. I would love for someone like Todd Graves to buy the team and actually care about it. Joe Dumars is a horrible hire, and reflects how bad the organization really is. The Pelicans are definitely a bottom tier NBA franchise.

Amazing that we dump Griffin after years of him blowing a warchest completely only to hire an even worse option. What a joke this pathetic franchise is.

Absolute disaster. Now the league pawn will trade Zion to a big market.

Griffin actually didn’t do a bad job as a GM. He build a very talented roster. He just couldn’t find a coach and his superstars weren’t really superstars, just treated as such.

Griff lost value in almost every move he made. At the end of the day, some good happened, but there was also a lot of bad. The drafting was mostly good (Herb, Trey, Jose, and I think Missi will also turn out to be a good pick in the longer term) but there were misses too (Didi, though that late in the draft is kind of a shot in the dark anyway, but also NAW never worked out for us and so far Hawkins is looking pretty grim; Jax was obviously picked for potential but it never materialised here) and he blew through the warchest of assets obtained from moving AD and Jrue really inefficiently. Spending picks to get out of his mistakes is never good.

He built a roster that was terminally plagued with problems that he either never actually addressed, or failed to address - for god's sake, we entered this season having to rely on Yves Missi for vital centre minutes. Obviously Missi ended up being a pretty good positive for the season but relying on a rookie to plug a roster hole that we had all summer, that everyone knew we had, is just a failure of management. He moved BI a year late.

Zion can't stay healthy, that's not Griff's fault, and BI never actually became the superstar that Griff thought he would be (and also couldn't stay healthy) - those aren't on him. But almost everything else has been
    Basketball.

HE blew a lot of draft picks because he was living in the past. He wasted a lot on dinosaur big men.

You must be thinking of Dell Demps? Griffin never invested anything in the center position.

Adams and Jonas cost some capital. Not a crazy amount, but it wasn't nothing.

He gave up picking Garland for Jaxon Hayes and NAW.

I’d hardly call Jaxson Hayes “a lot of dinosaur big men.” That draft was his one major fault in regards to drafting.

I’d rather have David Griffin and a new head coach over Joe Dumars and looking at Willie Green on the sideline another year. It’s the same BS they did with Alvin Gentry. Ownership is too cheap to fire coaches. It’s disgusting. I honestly hope no one supports this team financially. It’s a complete sham.

You must have forgotten all the draft picks we wasted acquiring dinosaur bigs and then picks used to dump them.

I would call giving up a 1st to get Adams and then extending him before he even played for us and then having to trade down in the draft to dump him just a little draft capital. He also traded 2 2nds for Favors.

Favors was more of a PF who could moonlight as a C.

And if 13-3 makes 5,672 negative posts about a move in 48 hours, historically that move turns out kind of ok. So we have that going for us.

I can’t wait to see what “modern” team Joe Dumars assembles.

Yeah, just when you thought it couldn't get worse, we get Dumars and Weaver. Things could be ugly for a while it appears.

Completely disagree. The problem is that ownership is too involved.

A cardboard cutout would be completely absent. They'd basically be a big ATM that funds the team and is otherwise disconnected entirely from how it runs.

Gayle isn't. She's constantly setting spending limits, enforcing requirements to stay under tax, and apparently her and her inner circle are basically making roster decisions based at least partially on the non-criminal off-court behaviour of the players. Part of the reason for the reported trade-Zion mandate that Dumars got was because ownership doesn't like the drama surrounding his private life.

It would be way better if Gayle was a cardboard cutout.

I don’t think Gayle really makes those decisions, it’s “the Benson trust,” Loomis, Lauschka, etc.

I do think Gayle sets the table and they act on her wishes. Owners are often more involved than we think. All of the above you mentioned just get the blame if things go wrong. I don't think she makes every front office decision, but she is 100 percent involved in the decision making in some way. No shot we would hire a Louisiana native otherwise. She definitely had a hand in that.
