Good morning. Over the past week noise has been steadily getting louder in league circles that David Griffin's time in New Orleans is coming to an end. I won't say this is a forgone conclusion - but this is the loudest I've ever seen (heard?) it.

I've reached out to many people on this and there is near uniformity on this piece of information. What there isn't uniformity on is the status of Willie Green. I've heard two versions:

1) Willie is loved by ownership and is completely safe

2) The Willie decision will be up to the next guy.

Sad. The guy built teams that looked like contenders on paper but the players never made it on the court together for long periods....but it had to happen. Too much of the same thing. The entire thing needs to be shaken.

Willie Green will remain Pelicans coach for now, per league source. Once Pelicans hire a new lead executive, that person will have say on Green's future.

Took long enough. Wish him well wherever he ends up, but he was just not getting it done and theres only so long you can coast on aspirations and slick talk.

Obviously some issues, like injuries, were beyond his control but he made plenty of unforced errors too.

Looking forward to seeing who is going to be taking us into the next stage of the teams team's history.

I can confirm the @jakelfischer.bsky.social and @thesteinline.bsky.social reports that Willie Green's name has been circulating for the inevitable opening in Phoenix. This would allow the Pelicans to get off the final year of his contract.

know reporting has implied there will be a search for the Pelicans next head of operations, but all of the noise right now is centered around two people:

Joe Dumars and Bryson Graham.

As I mentioned yesterday - the build up to this over the last week was quite rapid.

To my knowledge, Griffin had tried to part ways with Willie Green earlier in the season and was turned down by ownership. Writing was probably on the wall then.

I'm glad if this is true and the new GM decides green's fate. People act like its a foregone conclusion that green should be fired. im glad it's not the case. If he hasn't lost the locker room or respect of his players its justifiable to keep him. we improved each season until this one. and no coach would have won this year. no coach. now, im a mere h.s. coach but being that i usually digress from feeling like im in a position to evaluate coaches from the outside. we were so decimated by injuries, losing has been a desired outcome for a while. .
