Ingram signs 3 year 120 mill deal with Toronto

New Toronto Raptors star Brandon Ingram has agreed to a three-year, $120 million contract extension with the franchise, including a player option in 2027-28, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, agents Shy Saee and Mike George told me and @BobbyMarks42.

This makes me sad though because I think most would agree that was fair value for him. He should still be a pel. Other players should have been moved before him if at all possible.

The way people talked about BI during the contract talks I can't blame him if he wanted to leave. There was so much negativity about his fit and all that. I can assume it finally got to him.
I'm OK not paying Brandon Ingram $40 million a year. At best he's probably a #3 on a good playoff contending team (depending on if he can stay healthy, which is a big "if"), and that's a lot of $$ to be paying your #3 guy, especially when there were very valid questions about the long-term fit with Zion.

This article raises the very same questions about giving that amount of $$ to Ingram when there are valid questions about how his shot profile fits into the current NBA.
He's worth the money if he could stay healthy. We'd have had to move CJ to afford it, but hey I've wanted CJ off the team for awhile now.
It'd hard to get talented players to come here. We all know that. We seem to have let one go for a 33 yo stretch 5 and a glue guy. He probably wanted to go though or he would have signed last summer.
I would have been ok with 40 mil a year for brandon. I think the Pelicans tried to give him that too?
It's worth noting that with BI and Zion healthy (which was rare) the Pels would usually win 60+% of their games. I can't remember the last time Zion and TMIII even won a game together. The ideas of TMIII being a BI replacement were clearly ludicrous. I love the kid, but his ceiling is BI's floor. We need a 2nd star bad.
All that said, we couldn't roll it back with Zion and BI. It's just been too long. Someone had to go.
I think Trey fits better going forward and likely has better availability (and a lower salary). The future is bright next year with an impact rookie, Herb returning, etc.

Agreed, its always been an odd narrative. Trey doesn't come close to being a replacement for Ingram. Its been demonstrated that DM wasn't either. Guys that can get you 23 to 28 a night generating their own offense, and offense for others aren't plentiful. Being able to do that is a big deal.
Because of injuries this season, none of that has been demonstrated because we haven't had these guys play together without Ingram. I'm not expecting Dejounte to come back to where he was though.
Next year Willie will be gone, one more year with CJ. Things will change thank goodness. It wouldn't be the Pels without some bumps along the way, but at least it will be different.
Yeah, the Dejaunte situation is a major setback for the Pel's and him personally. This squad can't ever seem to catch a break, or get a string of good luck. This is complicated by ownership that's not interested in spending too much.
There are two types of winning coaches. You have the over achievers that can do more with less and get the best out of players. You also have the ones that manage egos and can bring talent together and make it a cohesive package. I think there were genuine concerns about BI's fit. When it boils down to it though, there isn't a doubt in my mind that the team last year could have competed. They could have been so much better than they were and it would not have been a last ditch play-ins run with BI and Zion forced to carry heavy minute loads. The NBA is too fast nowadays and as a result there is so much wear and tear. We were always struggling too hard even in the games we won. We need to get to a place where we can comfortably win games and the team is comfortable creating offense (or at the very least has a winning forumala). I don't blame BI. Not one bit. The failures were not his fault.
Man I wish it was him, the rest of he current team, and the top 1 - 4 draft pick. Hopefully whoever they think is the best.
In a interview after the trade, he sais he was happy to go to Toronto because they have players who play hard and they listen.
In light of this comment it's pretty clear that there was poor locker room chemistry and it explains much of the struggle. I hope this trade and next summer clear this up in order to get back on track.
Those are pretty damning comments. Especially considering we had the likes of CJ and Jonas last year who were very solid long tenured veterans. I believe fully that Green did not have control of the locker room as a coach needs to.
My thinking is beginning to evolve on these kind of issues to where I'm becoming neutral. Who do you blame in these kind of situations? The coach? Or players who get paid millions of dollars? Is it too much to ask for them to show up for work, and give an honest effort? Should it be a coaches responsibility to motivate them to want to do what's expected? Then there's the flips side. An incompetent coach will have trouble gaining the trust of a squad. Which demotivates players. Maybe a bit of blame can be passed around to all parties.
I mean, he's probably talking about Zion. Basically everyone else seems like a good soldier.
He’s talking about how we as a whole switched on him for Zion and Trey because of potential that has equaled to nothing

Even if he is talking soley about Zion, that is partly on the coach. He needs to reign in the troops. I don't believe it is just Zion BTW. The communication in this team was clearly ******** poor and part of the problem.
I don't know if only Zion is targeted in his comment. I remember McCollum saying earlier this year that he miss JV because he was another adult in the room, it may have been a joke from CJ but jokes are often reflect of some reality.
Now for BI, let's not forget he's one of the players that asked for firing SVG because he was too harsh on him, so it's a bit ridiculous of him to complain about some of his former teammates on professionalism and coachability. In my opinion, he never got over the fact that he was never seen as the centerpiece of the franchise.
I read somewhere that BI was offered more money in NOLA. So there goes the "Brandon really wants to be here" narrative. Otherwise he would have stayed.
BI comes off as a hypocrite here because he was the main one pushing to be coached hard which led to the hiring of SVG. Seems like he’s now taking a page from the Klutch playbook in deflecting blame from himself and putting it all on others.
