Fred Vinson, a long-time assistant coach in New Orleans, is leaving to go work for his old boss, Monty Williams, in Detroit.

In May, the Pistons hired Trajan Langdon, who was second-in-command in the Pelicans? front office for five years, as their lead basketball executive. Langdon took with him salary cap and negotiations expert Michael Blackstone, and he has now poached Vinson.

It’s not a good sign. Particularly Langdon who helped build a very talented squad. We won 49 games and people are still jumping ship.

I stole this from Jake Madison on Locked On Pels but he put it so succinctly......not verbatim but essentially "coaches leaving a franchise to get better pay or a higher position is a great thing....which is what has happened with both Fred and Langdon....now if coaches were leaving for less or equal pay or a lesser or equal title....that would be bad".

It's sad to see these guys go but it's a sign of a healthy franchise.

Sounds like he is going to take the smart way to rebuild that team. I saw that he is willing to take on bad contracts for draft assets. Not trying to rush it like some do.

When you note the Pelicans haven't operated with a greater than 1 year lens since Anthony Davis was drafted, and that the Saints are now on their 4th year of trying to pretend they're still good, you'll realize that the actual problem resides somewhere above the office of GM/POBO.

When you note the Pelicans haven't operated with a greater than 1 year lens since Anthony Davis was drafted, and that the Saints are now on their 4th year of trying to pretend they're still good, you'll realize that the actual problem resides somewhere above the office of GM/POBO.

Only if that is because she has made bad hires at those positions. From what I understand, she gives them full autonomy to make the operational decisions of the teams.

Gale is a bit too soft as an owner. Just look at the Alvin debacle and the hiring of Dennis Allen. Her heart is in the right place. She just doesn’t have the ruthlessness to make the necessary changes and hold anyone accountable.

Alvin. Nice guy. Awful record as a head coach. Supposedly kept him an extra year to offer him the GM position which he declined. That was an insane decision.

Dennis Allen. Good defensive coordinator. Really nice guy. Supposedly is a yes man in the locker room and can’t lead. Mentioned by several people on the radio close to the situation. Not a shocker that the Saints are a middling side now despite having talent.

I'm not saying it's Gayle but she's not giving out full autonomy...there's no way Griff wanted to send out 4 2nd round picks to dump Devonte Graham's salary. I think there is pressure on both teams (from Gayle or, more likely, her lackeys--Lauscha/Bensel/Loomis/etc) to make the playoffs and decisions are made accordingly.

From what I have heard from someone well connected, it is Griffin who is trying to stay out of the tax more as self-preservation. Gayle has given him the green light but basically told him she expects it to be used to make the team a contender. Almost sounds as if he is not confident in his abilities to do so IMO.
