Thread: December 28th - New Orleans Pelicans vs Utah Jazz - 17-14

We ran BI/Zion PnR on the last two possessions and got 5 points out of it.

Please please please can we run that more, Green? It's not complex!
    Basketball.

That BI 3 and bounce for Trey 3 saved us. Win, but still awful shot quality down the stretch...

End of game, Pels win against the Jazz for once.

    Zion: 21pts, 10rbds, 8asts, 68.5%TS - 0 turnovers
    BI: 26pts, 3rbds, 5asts, 61.6%TS
    CJ: 22pts, 3rbds, 6asts, 63.5%TS

    That'll do.

Nice to see us close out a game after losing back to back to back games by falling apart in the final minutes. Have to say that Utah doesnt have the extra gear of defensive intensity that we faced against Memphis and the Rockets which caused the offense to wilt, but a win is a win

Nance looked the best he has looked all season in his first game back. His legs are fresh and his bounce is back.

He looked the best he has since he got injured back in February. Was awful to end last season. Hope this isn't a short-lived return to form.

Hope to god Nance is better than he's been for the last 11 months.
I think we got the answer to this question.

He did, indeed, play really well! Good to see him back.

Saw on the Utah feed this set of stats:

    In clutch time Pels are:
    28th in offense
    27th in 3pt %
    last in FT%
    last in turnovers.

This is exactly why we were 0-6.

Number not included there: historically low 3ptFreq in the clutch also.

Prior to tonight, the 29th rated team in clutch 3ptFreq took 22 per 100 clutch possessions. We took 14. Just a huge step down. Our entire offense devolves into isoball and contested middies.

Tonight was an example of how it should be done. No isoball, just BI/Zion PnR leading to 3s and buckets at the rim.

For those complaining that Zion doesn't get enough rebounds, his last 6 games he's had 11-8-3-8-11-10

Back from the game, nice to see us close out an opponent (especially the Jazz). Nice to see Nance come back from the dead, particularly after a month off. And nice to see Trey KEEP SHOOTING (and Willie keep him in).

Maybe those people can start directing some of the complaints about lack of rebounding towards our multiple other non-rebounding wings who somehow never get the same critique.

Maybe like Brandon Ingram, who's 2 inches taller than Zion, and yet in those same six games had 3-4-7-3-6-3? And the four prior to that he had 3-3-2-3. So 37 rebounds in 10 games, 3.7 a game.

We have really missed a decent Larry Nance. Looking back I think he covered a lot of cracks for Willie and we could use him at the level he was at the start. Definitely a difference maker and an energizer when he is on it. But god he has been awful for a while. Hopefully more like that.

Take the W anyway you can . New Years Eve game is a must win. Willie has another brain fart vs Lakers he gotta go.

But we have to be somewhat realistic. He is not taking CJs minutes. I could see him taking some of Jose's minutes. Naji is actually playing well lately.

Sure, or Herb who has averaged 2 rebounds a game over his last 8.

We have a lot of wing/forwards who are good players but who don't rebound much. Zion gets the shtick for it a lot - and it is deserved sometimes, don't get me wrong - but somehow the rest of the squad just gets off scot-free for the same issue when they're just as bad or worse.

Zion has a higher REB% on the season than Dyson, Trey, Ingram, and Herb, and they're all taller than him. If you stick to solely DREB%, he's still higher than all four of them, so it's not just that his OREBs are juicing the numbers.

Need a better team effort from all the wings. Zion's started doing it over the last few weeks, so let's share the critique around. If the shoe fits, after all.
