Larry’s dunk had to be 100% tourney related
Was just going to say the same. We needed to win by 12 pass Phoenix for the possible WC spot. Normally Nance would have just let the clock run out. I was watching the Clippers feed and their announcers didn't understand why Nance took the shot. A lot of people haven't paid real attention to the point differential thing. But it seems like the players know.
Zion with 32/6/5 with 2 steals on 63%TS
Ingram with 30/4/5 on 70%TS
Herb with 14/5/4, a steal and a block on 98.8%TS
JV with 12/8/4 on 98.6%TS
Nance was awful most of the game but that big block on PG13 late was awesome
Basketball.
Why didn't we go for a 3 at the end ? if it was +11 we would be tied with Suns for best non-group-winner and had a chance to advance as a wild card in case that Rockets win against Mavericks.
zion was really happy with that win, he gave a lot of props to willie.
Yeah not giving a pass to Larry still. He's just not good.
The Pelicans stars got it done and didn't need to take 20 threes to do it.
Also....Herb Jones. He's playing like an all star.
This was Ingram's most complete game of the season. The fact that he let Zion close because Zion had the better matchup was the cherry on top.
although on 2nd thought it might be because Zion is sitting tommow![]()
Great game. I suppose Zion sits tomorrow. Going to be tough. Hopefully we win it on will. Maybe a big show by Jose. Then should win the next one. This team definitely seems to take the tournament seriously. Way more than I do lolz. But if it gets us wins, it's a good thing.
The good news is that we're playing the Jazz next, who are 4-11, have lost 4 in a row, and whose last loss was to the equally dismal Trailblazers.
No game is a given and the team have to take every single matchup seriously, but if there's any games we should be able to manage with Zion out on rest, it should be games against teams like the Jazz or the Spurs.
I think many of BI’s lulls (you could argue Zion too) are because most of our players couldn’t create plays for them. Point BI/Zion is fine but we need the other guys to carry some of the playmaking burden and help them get good looks. Under Borego we have started to see more of that and they had some nice setups for BI tonight. Hopefully more to come. Good lobs from BI to Zion as well
Honestly, a lot of the offensively lulls in general just come from wack lineups that shouldn't exist.
Nance will play like garbage all game long and then Green will just play a line up with Nance and Zion at the 4 and 5 and then not even put any shooters in with them. Like, no wonder the spacing vanishes and the offense dies. The minute they put Hawk in, things suddenly look a lot better because guys can't just camp out in the paint.
Other than that, the main lulls we have just come from personnel. We're running good offense 90% of the time now, it seems, but there's only so much value in generating fantastic looks from 3 when you have a team full of guys who either turn them down or can't make them. We're been shooting out of our minds lately - from guys you don't expect to, like Herb and Dyson - and they're still hesitant.
Imagine these exact same offensive approaches except instead of generating a 3 for Naji or Nance or even Jose, it's being generated for Matt Ryan, CJ McCollum, or Trey Murphy. Suddenly those lulls turn into explosions.
Guess the bad news is probably no Zion tomorrow. Which would be okay if CJ and/or Trey were healthy. Already down too many important guys for healthy scratches.
Also, even though Utah seems down this year, they are still a bad matchup. And they've been resting since Wednesday.
The good news is this team seems to be figuring it out no matter who isn't playing.
Suns vs Memphis, suns up by a milion, Booker takes a 3 with 13 seconds left and somehow banks it in.
Pelicans up by 8, 10 seconds left, Ingram wants to dribble out the clock, Nance ask for it but goes for 2 points.
Summary? Suns have +34 point differential in IST, Pels have +33 and instead of clinching wild card spot they have to pray that Dallas shows up against the Rockets and beats them.
That is some ******** coaching awareness right there.
Even if tie wasn't enough we could have went for a 3 or quick 2 and foul after, Clippers were not even trying.
It’s a different offensive scheme entirely. The play used to be dictated by a primary playmaker and now it is dictated by ball movement and offball movement. It wasn’t a BI problem. It was a CJ, BI, Zion, etc. problem. If you have too many chefs in the kitchen you have to drop the egos, share the ingredients and give each other space. It’s a big part of the reason why so many of these big “3’s” suck so bad or end in disappointment. Just gotta find the balance.
DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE!!!
From TY Lue.........
New Orleans scored on 11 of its first 13 possessions. It wasn?t much better offensively for the Clippers to start. ?I thought we had a nasty flow all night, thought their pressure bothered us, speeded us up and made us slow at the same time if you understand what I?m saying,? coach Tyronn Lue said. ?And it just kind of took us out of everything we wanted to do. ?So we never really got to our second-side, third-side actions because by the time we initiated it was just the clock was already gone down. So I take responsibility for that as far as just offensively, we?ve got to be better in that regard.?
Until we ALL realize that it's not the 'Showtime' dunks that makes a team GREAT, but the hard work of "in-your-face" defense that does the trick, we will remain a "Stock Exchange" team.
