With our recent success I began wondering what the pelicans needed to win the NBA championship. Then it struck me 2 40 point shooters! Oh Wait we have 2 coming soon:
Trey Murphy 22-23 40.6%
C J McCollum 22-23 38.9%
I can't wait repeat I can't wait!

On paper, it's a great place to be.
On paper, this might be the best Pelicans team ever assembled - in terms of having multiple all-stars plus quality depth right down through the entire rotation. We have so many functional rotation pieces that we might have to get rid of some just to duck the tax. That's unheard of for New Orleans basketball.
The only thing holding me back from saying that we're championship contenders is the lack of track record. I'm not sure exactly how many teams have gone from 1 playoff appearance in 5 years to a championship in a single leap, but it's not many. The roster is there, the depth is there, the talent is there, but there is a value to having been there before that we just don't have right now.
That said, is there enough talent on this team that it should be one of the best regular season records in franchise history? Absolutely. 50 games should be a real aim, not just a pipe dream. Home court of the playoffs should be the goal: the play-in would be a disappointment for this roster. First playoff series win since we swept Portland? Definitely should be a goal.
Then the chip can come in 2025![]()
Basketball.
Worth noting also that Matt Ryan is shooting 47% from 3 on 5 a game.
