Thread: November 12th - New Orleans Pelicans vs Dallas Mavericks - 4-5

Meanwhile, Maxey just wrapped up a 50 point game.

We drafted Kira Lewis with Maxey still on the board. That said - does Maxey ever become this good if he's on the Pelicans? I'm sceptical.
    Basketball.

The worst contract in the history of professional sport?

A five year 197,000,000 guaranteed contract to a player who's played you to the max...not basketball. We have paid for a name...not a player....a frick'n name.

    It’s stat padding time.

Been saying it. Pick a guy, move the other, move JV, use the picks, pick an identity.

Just not going to win many game missing your #3,4,6, and 8. It means you're starting someone from your deep bench a rotating in guys who will never see regular minutes. Even though Zion and BI are playing, health continues to kill us.
BI, Zion, and CJ had a net rating of +3 when on the court together. BI and Zion had a +13.4, BI and CJ had a +13.2, Zion and CJ was just +5.4.

BI and Zion worked. BI and CJ worked. It was CJ and Zion and all three together that didn't work.

It would be one thing if the stars were playing well and we were just getting out-depthed.

That's not what's happening. Zion and Ingram have yet to play well together in the same game. Either Zion's doing well and Ingram's been bad, or tonight, the reverse. Lineups with both of them on the floor are a coinflip on if they work or not. Every other pair of stars they face looks better. The fit just is not there.

There have been moments where the team has looked good. Second quarter V OKC is an example, game 1 v Memphis had some moments.

But we are now in the 4th quarter of game 10 - that's 40 quarters of basketball played. Maybe 6 or 7 of those quarters have been good. We have lost 24 out of the first 39 quarters of the season, and we're on pace to lose this one too.

This just isn't working, man. The team's play is screaming out to Griff ''make changes!'' and he won't.

Games like this make you think it's tempting to just trade Zion and BI for a ton of picks ala OKC (and CJ for a pick or two) and just rebuild around our young guys.

It's not games like this, it's seasons like this. The pair doesn't work. Split 'em up. Pick one, move the other. Focus on fit over big names. Two stars that fit together is great, but one star with a fitting supporting cast is better than two stars that harm each other.

Zion hasn't really done "well" all year. This game being the absolute worst and it has nothing to do with Willie or who he;'s on the floor with.

Zion has to grow his game up. You can't do the same thing and expect the league to never adjust.

That plus the health situation and you get what you get. Ingram has pressure to put up near 40+ for this team to have a decent outing and that's your only chance.

I'd just assume move them both was my point.

Nah, I wouldn't do that. You're not likely to get value for either of them, so you'd be entering an entire rebuild from the ground up with meagre resources and at this point, that would cost the entire FO their jobs I think.

Edit: to be clear, I don't care if they lose their jobs, but obviously they do.

    It's a knee-jerk reaction and I get it.

Already on 5 game losing streak after our 10th game of the season. Pels fandom is just misery, once again.

Saying this team needs to be blown up is very premature and frankly a bit immature 10 games in.

Missing CJ, Trey, Herb, and Jose is the absolute worst combo of players to have missing all at the same time RIGHT NOW. It's painful.

They'd probably be 7-3 or at least 6-4 right now if they had all of them and were only missing Zion.

If they get all those guys back in December, and are sitting 7 seed or below come February or March, then I'd consider the blow up. You almost have to.
