Thread: November 2nd - New Orleans Pelicans vs Detroit Pistons - 3-1

We looked a little gassed at the end but we pulled it out. Stoked for Matty with his 20 and CJ for his 30 bomb. Hopefully this is the beginning of us learning how to play without everyone available. We still have plenty of talent and shouldn’t have dropped so many of these in the past. CJ proving he is willing to switch into leader mode and Jonas should never have been neglected. Guy is very good offensively on his night.

Didnt catch a game, have to rewatch it but from boxscore looks like a nice team win and what makes me happy are the free throws. We have to make those regularly. GJ!

Impressed by that win without z & BI on a back-to-back + flying home this afternoon. I thought they played mature, focused on getting Val touches down low, getting three-pointers up and making Detroit shoot from the outside. Hitting all their free throws was big as well.

One of the big things I hoped the Pels would address in the offseason was building a roster that could at least stay around .500 when Zion and Brandon were out, as I think you now have enough data to warrant planning on that contingency. Adding two professional shooters in Hawkins and Ryan was a good start. Together with CJ and Trey, the Pels now at least have a solid core of three-point shooters. I hope they continue to emphasize finding and developing shooters, a talent you can buy on the cheap sometimes, as Ryan demonstrates. I'd have at least 2-3 wing shooting prospects on the Birmingham squad at all times.

I'm done worrying about how many games our young star duo miss. They are going to miss games. That much seems clear. When they play, we'll be fine. The real challenge is to at least be competitive when they don't. Tonight was a good model on how that might be accomplished with this roster...

He might get one but you won't hear about it because he would just play through it.

Hot take after 5 games. CJ is the best player on this team. Not the most talented but definitely the best. Especially when you factor in availability.

Great TEAM WIN without BI and Z. Masive respect for CJ and Jonas - they play hard in every game. We need guys like that. 4-1 , don’t wake Me up!

Matt ryan has been valid. The offensive sets have been refreshing.

Strongly disagree. He was hot in the first half, but gassed and inefficient with clumsy turnovers in the second half (team-leading four turnovers). After an amazing box score in the first half, at the end of the night the box looks like he's a chucker. 3-10 from 3 is nothing impressive, and somehow he was -17 +/- (worst on the team by far). When he's good he's very, very good. When he's bad he's very bad. Coach should've sat him more in the second half as he was clearly tired.

Nah. He's playing the best right now, but I think that's different from the best overall. I think he's the most prepared though, and in the early season that can be vital to performance for obvious reasons.
