If any team got it in the west, I'm glad it's them. Pops is old. They have zero talent. And they tanked only because they traded talent out. They won't be good for some years. Best case scenario if it had to be in the west.
Spurs once again handed a generational big man. Keeps happening.
Basketball.
I was hoping that an East team got the pick, if not the Pelicans.
Dammit dammit dammit.
Choosing to be happy about the increased retail value of my season ticket games vs the Spurs. (And looking forward to the many Zion vs. Wemba hypathons to come).
Another reason the Pels need to add some active length. 4 games a year against Wemby now.
But whatevs. If this franchise can somehow squeeze 60 - 65 games out of BI and Zion it's a top 4 (if not top 2) team in the west. These playoffs have only confirmed it for me. Lakers vs Nuggets??
The 14th pick will only help the cause long-term.
I would love to have him. But there are a lot of questions. It's not like it's Shaq.
Wemby, Sochan, Johnson and Vassell is not a bad core. They would need a good floor general though to maximize their talents.
They were told, which ever team had Devonte Graham would win the lottery....
Since they have Branham and Wesley from the last draft, if one make a sophomore leap they may already have their point guard.
I think they will be competitive in a couple years since they'll need Wemby to adjust to NBA and at least one of their young players to improve to fringe all star but I think they have a pretty good core to build around Wemby and with numerous first round draft picks coming, they'll have other opportunities to improve their young core.
For Wemby it's basically a match made in heaven, already a young supporting cast to grow with, he should be the offensive option number one, no pressure to win right away and a first class organisation with previous success with french players.
With Charlotte getting the #2 pick... assuming they like Scoot more than Miller... would they trade Lamelo Ball for Zion Williams?
That might be the safest place to trade Zion to, if you are worried he will turn it around (I'm not worried about that), because they are unlikely to be contenders any time soon.
Zion is from North Carolina, so it could be the best place for him too.
Lots of wins to be had in such a trade for everyone involved.
- Zion goes home, which hopefully helps him get motivated.
- Hornets build around Scoot and Zion.
- Pelicans sort out their Zion issue and get the PG they need.
- Lamelo gets to be on a team that can properly contend with him added to the roster.
- BI finally gets to play with 2nd star he can count on.
- McGollum gets pushed to the bench.
