I surely agree, for the most part. But, hard for me to believe Trey's smooth, natural stroke won't translate. I also really liked that when Patrick Williams had the ball in the paint, Trey got into him, and used his length to get on top and smother Williams without leaving his feet.

TRUE BUT TREY MURPHY III IS SOMETHING SPEICAL!!

I get that Naji has energy/activity, but I think his lack of skill provides a very low ceiling. IMO, he rarely appears under control with the ball, and seems to be a poor finisher at the rim, for his size. Also, if I'm remembering correctly, he had some very bad passes for a guy who needs a high bball IQ to be effective in the league.

It's early, but who said this on draft day about TM3 and the Pelicans' Draft?

"Edit: in fact actually take that back, I am a little annoyed. Plenty of better options imo. Not a huge massive fail but yeah, a very D grade draft"

Just wondering if your opinion might?ve changed a bit. Do you still not want him to play much the first half of the season??

He's going to struggle defensively but if he hits 45% of open 3s or whatever then he obviously has value. I think I'd still like to start him at 15 mpg and let him earn more as the season progresses. You don't want to overexpose a guy too early based on Summer League and possibly kill his confidence (i.e. NAW year one)

Not a fan of removing the tournament format from the summer league. The 2 teams in the “championship” could be determined by a coin flip.

Are you going to follow up and say, or just leave this out there? What's your point?

For me the difference between Trey and NAW (or even JAX) is that he is excelling in SL at things that he would potentially be asked to do this season - defense and drawing fouls might be the exceptions.

NAW was taking games over being able to be the lead scorer and primary ball handler. So when he tried to take that with him to the league it caused some issues. Same with JAX dominating with size and speed in SL.

I think the start with low min and usage is a good idea like you are saying, but I also think he can handle whatever gets asked of him early on - unless it's starter minutes right away.

3M3 can't struggle any more defensively than most of the guys on the team did last year. I'd rather give the minutes to a guy who hustles on defense and can hit an open shot, even if he is inexperienced, than give those minutes to a player who mails it in on the defensive end of the court.

I don't think you're going to have the problem of mailing it in this season defensively. Most of the guys on the roster are super hungry. The question is more whether you think he's ready to take the physicality and beating of an 82 game NBA season. I agree with AD-AT that he can handle everything that gets asked of him early on offensively, but my questions with Murphy are is he going to be able to hold up. We saw Kira hit the rookie wall last season pretty hard. You don't want Murphy to hit the rookie wall and then start shooting 35% from 3. You don't want to put him in a position where he questions himself and his shot. The rookie wall will completely take away a guy's legs.

Again, I think I would use NAW's rookie season as a learning experience. They're very similar in terms of they were both 21 year old rookies who were drafted 17th and excelled in Summer League. I think with Murphy you have the luxury of bringing him along a little bit more slowly and just really setting him up for long term success. The key is putting him in a position to succeed. Toss him in those lineups with Zion for 15 mpg early on and just let him shoot wide open 3s, then later on you can start tasking him with harder assignments defensively.

It should be a fluid situation of course. If Murphy is just too good to be sitting, then obviously you have to get him on the court. He seems like he's smart as hell, so I don't worry about the IQ taking a while to catch up.

They should go ahead slide Trey Murphy in at SG. Don’t even waste time.

You really do have to appreciate, on a sort of sick level, the insistence Bol Bol has at just doing nothing if he isn't on ball. It's amazing.

Cade has 3 assists and like 17 potential assists, Jesus Christ can someone on the Pistons SL team make a shot from 3?

Did anyone watch the game yesterday? How did Cash Considerations do? Did he look legit or should we trade him for a second next year?

I tried tuning into the Memphis / Miami game but it was frustrating to watch... at least for the few minutes I tuned in... traveling, offensive foul, offensive foul, defensive foul in a span of 4 or 5 possessions.

On another note, Ziaire Williams shooting well right now but has 6 fouls already.

There's a reason Summer League is very rarely anyone's favourite basketball

A lot of borderline/edge-case players, many of whom are desperate to impress, playing in a context which ultimately prioritises ''bucket getters'' and often entirely abandons defensive principles or team ball. Leads to a huge amount of stupid fouling, weird rotations, dodgy lineups, and inefficient forced hero ball.

Our last SL game was an anomaly in that it was actually fun to watch.

I'm having a good time, but I got an ultra wide monitor. So, I can multitask and game a little bit while being productive.
