I would imagine it's Chicago and Miami talking to Lonzo and Lowry before the start of free agency. Unlikely Lowry would have signed with New Orleans anyway, but if Griffin waited until the moratorium opened to begin speaking to them, and then was informed he had already agreed to a deal with another team so they won't bother even having a discussion, I'd be a bit peeved. Seems like at least CP3 gave a brief thought about the deal New Orleans reportedly offered him, but I don't think there was ever even remotely a possibility he would sign that after the year Phoenix just had, unless Phoenix offered a ridiculously lowballed offer.

People saying tampering should just be allowed because everyone does it are wrong. Imagine having a player under contract in the final year of their deal, and then members of another organization constantly talking to that player and his agent throughout that season about signing them in the upcoming offseason. At least the tampering involving Anthony Davis was player to player... not something the NBA can prevent.

Yep it's more about the bulls and heat... it's probably some contending teams or the ones that had interest in the players involved that filed a complaint.

What if they start picking and choosing when to enforce it? If they finally start enforcing the law, fine. But I doubt it ends that way.

The NBA's probe will examine illegal contact among teams and players ahead of the opening of free agency on Monday at 6 p.m. ET, sources told ESPN. Team executives, players agents and players have been notified of the opening of the league office's investigations, sources said.

The NBA instituted more stringent penalties in these cases in 2019, including raising the maximum fine for teams to $10 million and the possibility of suspending team executives, forfeiting draft picks and even the voiding of contracts. Team executives can also have their communications -- such as telephone records, texts and emails -- randomly audited.

The tampering was obvious. If your the Bulls and Heat when rumors have been swirling for days that Lowry was going to end up in Miami and Ball was signing an offer sheet with Chicago why would you make these moves right when free agency opens. Adds to much fuel to the fire

Of course that's an issue. But also fans of teams facing penalties are going to make that claim when it may not actually be true. The difficult part will be enforcing ones that may be seen as more of a grey area, and of course they can't enforce tampering between players.

But it's easy to enforce it when you find clear evidence that players spoke to players before they were allowed by rules.

They are already picking and choosing when to enforce it.

When Steve Ballmer - owner of the Clippers - spent much of Kawhi's year in Toronto travelling to sit gameside at Toronto Raptors games it was a non-story. Does anyone in their right mind think that there was not a single moment of any tampering going on surrounding that situation? Of course there was. But the league doesn't really mind.
    Basketball.

Would be awkward to have lonzo back with us lol

  9. #3209
Is there a world where the trade happens but Lonzo's contract is voided so our qualifying offer is his contract and we just incorporate him into another trade if its awkward for him to return ?

  10. #3210
    Yes.... In your dreams.

Pelicans officially welcome Jonas Valanciunas to the Pels on Facebook. I guess it’s a done deal?

  12. #3212
What I am seeing is that since the deal is done the most likely penalties IF they can find enough evidence and this isn't just a shot across the bow is possible fines up to 10 million , loss of draft picks or front office penalties like suspensions or fines. Trade goes through and players are moved as it is late to try and put the genie in the bottle.

Two years ago, NBA elevated maximum tampering fine to $10M for teams and opened door for suspension of executives, forfeiture of draft picks and voiding of contracts. Team execs can also have their communications – such as phone records, texts and emails – randomly audited.

Pretty sure they increased the penalties for tampering after that season. I'd imagine most, if not all, teams tamper at least to some degree. But being present at another team's games isn't something you can penalize someone for even if it's obvious to everyone why they're really there. They're just going to say they're scouting. If they have hard evidence they had actual contact with the player, then that's different.

But kinda odd how people talk about NBA rarely ever enforcing tampering rules when Coaches and GMs/owners have difficulty merely mentioning another player's name without getting fined for it.

Remember Doc getting fined $50k for comparing Kawhi to Michael Jordan?

I wonder if this is the reason why Hart's potential S&T isn't completed yet. It's been way too quiet on that front.

Tampering allegations for Klutch clients are funny, because Rich Paul constantly sells his clients on leaving during the season--contact with other teams is the window-dressing for a player's decision to go elsewhere.

I'm wondering if this is a round about way to get Klutch for tampering with teades. Like. A known tactic for Klutch is to get a player to specifically name teams they want to be traded to or do other strategies that lower a player's trade value......I wonder if the NBA hates this but can't punish it....so they're finding another way to stamp it out. Using tampering to hurt the benefitting team....which would then make future benefitting teams ask players and Klutch not to engage in these tactics.

    Huge speculation on my part.
BI, Zion, and CJ had a net rating of +3 when on the court together. BI and Zion had a +13.4, BI and CJ had a +13.2, Zion and CJ was just +5.4.

BI and Zion worked. BI and CJ worked. It was CJ and Zion and all three together that didn't work.

Did no one post this from 9 hours ago or did I just miss it? Didn't know Iwundu got included to create a larger TPE. Kinda important.

And for the love of god please stop posting that Griff "gave away 2 FRPs." They have not...yet.

Can the Bulls sign and trade for Ball be expanding to add Josh Hart with a S&T to another team?

That?s only predicated on the team being terrible, but still Griff TRIED to give away 2 FFP and that's what people should see and how it should be interpreted as such. Protection was weak. If it was Top 20 Protected... I'd agree with you, because that's astronomically low chances of it conveying. Insanely low. Lottery protected...

I'm pretty sure it's 30/70 that we get out of the lottery.

So, it's not a big deal to me to be honest, either way

Just in case anyone is wondering, we still have way more than enough assets in the holster should a star player become available via trade.

Don't try to read that after a few drinks, though.

It better be. Wow David Griffin makes Gayle open up her checkbook again. Yikes

Our total trade exception would 17 million, right?

Why would any fan care about Gayle's chequebook?

She's a billionaire. Her finances are literally the least of my worries.

And when she dies I think anything she doesn’t spend goes into the hands of her husband’s adopted kids who she hates. So I don’t think we have to worry about Gayle not spending money.
