So what makes you think # 2 is the man going forward? To this point in his career, # 2 has shown nothing (that's a three year sample...only one under Gentry). At best, he has become static as a player. But you want to give him a fourth year in which his value to the team will, in all likelihood, become nil. Now that's maximizing the assets on your roster, huh?
Put succinctly, # 2 is like a Hollywood Stage set. He's only a façade of what a real, championship, point guard is. So, if you are trying to build a Lamborghini (championship), you don't use VW parts.
