You control what you can control. Gentry can't help if Kawhi Leonard gets a steal or if Ingram and Jrue have a miscommunication. And in many cases, neither can the players: if Kawhi wants it, he's taking it, and if Jrue makes a sensible kickout at the same time as Ingram is making a sensible cut, who is to blame? Nobody.

What Gentry can control is playing lineups with no lead ballhandlers for minutes on end, and benching all 5 starters at once. He absolutely can control that.

That's not to say that you can never criticise players, obviously you can and we do, but it's a different category of thing.
