You can't have Baynes on the same team as Zion, there's some kind of law against that I think. Too much power.

With his injury history and body I can't see him agreeing to that

Draft Tillie, sign Baynes for 1 year, then you have Hayes and Tillie as your future 5.

We need to keep a running list of ideal stretch 5's in the league to pair with Zion

I hope Griffin sees that people are just going to park the bus in the paint unless you have 4 shooters around him

Sounds like a plan. And then you can still do Zion small-ball 5 things sometimes, you still have the Melli option as well, but you add a younger player (Tille is like 23 or something but still, younger) who can fill that slot long term, and he also happens to be a really good team defender and passer which is perfect for what we need.

Fun fact, looking at the shot charts:

Zion Williamson took three (3) shots total in the final 20 minutes of the game.

From 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd until the end of the game, 3 shots. Now, in fairness, he did turn it over twice in that 20 minute span as well, so that is basically 5 scoring touches in the final 20 minutes of the game.

    That's not good enough, folks.

Me too! I love this team and my city. Just after 5 years of seeing the undisciplined play you have to point the finger at the head coach. We have a lot of talent on the team but as fans when you see other teams make adjustments and you watch Pels lose big leads in 4th quarters it’s time for a change. BI bailed us out with some big shots tonight but it should have never come to that.

Yes, but harder to get as he's not a FA and he's on a good team.

I also don't know if ideal is the right word. I think he'd be good, but when I think 'ideal', I'm thinking of someone who ticks every box. Olynyk can shoot, and he's an okay passer, but he's very whatever on defense and he's about to turn 29.

A stretch 5 who is ideal for this team, to me, is:

    - 25 or under
    - A very good defender
    - High level passer
    - Doesn't need the ball in his hands to make plays
    - Obviously has to be able to shoot

Olynyk meets basically 2 of those 5 criteria.

A two year contract to 35 year old Marc Gasol?

    - 25 or under - No
    - A very good defender - Yes
    - High level passer - Yes
    - Doesn't need the ball in his hands to make plays - Yes
    - Obviously has to be able to shoot - Yes

Gasol meets basically 4 of those 5 criteria. Good fit until JAX is ready?

Nah. I get where you're coming from, and on paper Gasol does fit, but I think 35 is a bit too old. Also, I think his defense has taken steps downwards that are somewhat mitigated by playing in Toronto where he's surrounded by other good defenders, has a very good coach, and is only asked to play at a mid-tier pace. I feel like if he was inserted into a high speed offense like the one we prefer to run, he wouldn't be able to keep up at his current age and it would plague his defensive ability and expose some of the flaws aging has given him.

I get that this sounds a bit like a cop-out answer but I feel like once you get above about 30, you have to start taking the players on a case-by-case basis to see how they're aging, even if on paper they fit the criteria.

I am not going to pretend I know as I don't watch any other teams.

However out of the following C FA's next season who is the best fit?

    D. Favours
    M. Leonard
    A. Baynes
    K. Olynyk
    S. Ibaka
    A. Len
    H. Giles
    W. Hernangómez
    D. Bender
    M. Plumlee
    C. Wood*
    D. Bertans*

    *4/5.

Alex Len intrigues me...always has. But, my first three choices would probably be Leonard, Wood, and Olynyk in no particular order..

So, what you're looking for is a 5 tool guy to pay mid level money. We are looking for a stretch that fits with Zion. You have basically described an All Pro.

What do you think about Ibaka?

We can always wait for Tinman Towns to demand a trade. He'll be happy in a situation where he is the 3rd best player and doesn't have to be clutch or good in the playoffs.
