And I thought he was getting healthy enough to play this year.

Noooooooooooooo
My first instinct was to laugh. I feel so damn evil for it.
Sadly his career is coming to an end. No ring either. Bet he wishes he signed that extension now.
So what's his timeline at this point?
- Drafted by Kings. Put up big numbers there, was unquestionably talented, never won anything.
- Traded to Pelicans, costing him supermax. Had a rough start to the season but the team started getting it together after New Years.
- Achilles tendon explodes, costing him a max deal; gets offer for 2yrs/$40m from Pels and rejects it - checkers, not chess.
- Signs for the MLE with Golden State expecting an easy ring.
- Tears left quad shortly after returning from Achilles surgery. Doesn't actually win that ring.
- Signs one year minimum deal with Lakers. Immediately tears ACL, misses at least the first 50 games.
- Legal trouble after making murder threats towards ex-girlfriend.
- Dropped by Lakers before ever making it back on court.
He's now 29 years old. Has played a career total of 18078 minutes but has never been a key piece in an above .500 team. Achilles rupture, torn left quad, ACL tear.
Dude's career has to be done, right?
Lakers eying Markiff Morris now per reports.

He refused to leave?

At 29, he is only five months older than Melli and when healthy, he can shoot lights out from deep. There would be no question as to who the better option would be playing the 'Melli-role'. (and I'm a huge Melli fan)
It would boil down to health, money, and locker room persona for me.
Personally, I would definitely consider bringing Cousins back in a bench role next season.
If he had just made that free throw (no Achilles rupture, Pels make playoffs, etc.).
I once had some of the worst grits and drippings in the Queen City
