    The key here is, is the way he runs just due to bad habits? A weird physical thing that can be fixed, or if he's like a certain other 1st overall pick who has the curse of one leg being a little longer than the other.

    Dear GOD do I hope that's not that case. I hope it's just that he's a bit knock kneed.

    Then the source was being deliberately misleading because that's not what is in the article.

    A source within the organization told ESPN that before Williamson makes his on-court return, the team would like him to undergo at least two or three practices doing full work. A source told Sedano the team is targeting just after the new year for those practices.

    I had to learn how to run properly when I was in my late 20s. I kept getting stress fractures in my feet because how I landed on my feet when I would run. It’s an annoying process that doesn’t come naturally (considering that by the time you are 20+ these habits are now muscle memory). I’m not world class athlete who can jump over the Crescent City Connection though, so maybe Zion will get it done quicker.

    I'm calling 1/6 against Utah for the debut, but I REALLY hope it's 1/3 against the Lakers. Would be nice to have a fully healthy squad for that one.

    It all depends on just how much correction Zion needed. Or how much threat he's under to cause harm based on wherever he is.

    I think it will either be 1/6 vs Utah or 1/16 vs Utah. The Pels will debut Zion at home and look to have him average about 20 minutes a game with no back-to-backs for at least until the all-star break.

    They are obviously targeting practices at the start of the year, because they have an unusual 4 days off between the game on 12/29 (this Sunday) and the Lakers game on 1/3 (following Friday).

    They have a travel day mixed in, but if no setbacks he could play against the Lakers.

    Yeah you get the feeling Zion is good to go now. However they are holding him back for more conditioning to prevent further injuries. This could take some time. It might be best not to rush it. At least Grif. Is communicating about it now.

    That's what it seems like to me. He's moving well in the clips we're seeing of him, and the volume of these clips is increasing. It's totally possible that that's just coincidence, but it seems like they're slowly reintroducing him into the team environment and into the public eye to prepare for his debut relatively soon. This especially seems more likely when you consider how silent the team was with him just four weeks ago.

    I agree with you and others who say that, if push came to shove, Zion could probably play next game. But if fans are already expecting him to be out until early January, why not take the extra 2 weeks to go over some stuff and make some tweaks? Why not make sure he's running optimally? He has good landing mechanics the vast majority of the time, but why not double check them and maybe see if there's any room for improvement? Doesn't hurt anyone, doesn't delay him massively, and the fans are already expecting him to be out for these next two weeks.

    I don’t understand why they don’t just rule him out for the season and take the pressure of coming back off him. Let him recover completely and start fresh next season.

    Or is fighting for the 8th seed to get swept by the Lakers or Clippers while risking further injury and damage to Zion more important?

    They are already taking an abundance of caution, which is obvious by how they've handled the injury to this point. If he gets to the point that he's completely ready to play, what's the point of keeping him out? I don't care how well you run practice, what specialized training you undergo, there is no substitute for playing in NBA games against NBA players. Playing him this season has nothing to do with a playoff push. It has to do with his growth trajectory. There's no reason to wait to press start unless there's an actual risk to him. I trust the FO to not put him in that risk scenario.

    I don’t see the harm in sitting him for the remainder of the season, it’s not like they have anymore goodwill to burn, ticket sales aren’t going to come close to where they were this past offseason.

    1) If he's healthy and wants to play, why sit him?
    2) Players get better by playing: giving him NBA experience is always a good thing. Using the back half of this season as a way to get him in-game, NBA experience but against relatively easily scheduling (our schedule is much weaker towards the end of the year) is actually a great way to get him used to the speed of the NBA game without getting clobbered by great teams, giving him a good chance to avoid hitting the rookie-wall.
    3) Fans paid for season tickets to see him play. They understand him not playing if he's hurt, much harder to sell them on ''we're not playing him cause we don't really feel like it rn lol''
    4) Need to see his chemistry with other players on the roster to determine roster moves.

    There's a couple of reasons just off the top of my head.

    Help me understand this logic. At what point is he "recover completely"? You mean if they play him at any point this year he's not completely recovered? How so?

    And if you wait and play him next year, you are no longer risking further injury and damage? He cant pop a ligament in preseason next year??

    I dont get it.

    And I also dont think theyd get swept by the Lakers or Clippers. Neither team is that dominant.

    It’s true. The dude is still susceptible to getting hurt next season, no matter how much rest he gets this year, meanwhile fans bought tickets in draft night for this season when the goal is to punt Zion’s rookie season to next year?

    Totally agreed on that. Clippers are the better team (imo) even if the top of the Lakers roster is a touch better, but neither team is built to absolutely crush an opponent in a series. It's more like ''yes, you can beat us, but can you beat us 4 times?'' rather than ''you can't scrape a win''.

    While this may sound ominous and dire at first blush, the reality is that this is a commendable and proper approach to rehabilitation and does not imply long-term concern for Williamson’s durability; if anything, this news should do just the opposite.
    The kinetic chain of the lower extremities can be further subdivided into the anterior and posterior chains. The posterior kinetic chain — which is primarily comprised of the hip abductors, glutes, hamstrings and calves — is frequently a major area of focus when rehabilitating lower extremity injuries.

    Any chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and this aphorism applies to the kinetic chains of the human body as well. To boil down a complex concept simply: If any of the above-listed muscle groups are weak relative to the others, the athlete will likely be at an increased risk for injury; by strengthening weak links in the kinematic chain — particularly the hip abductors and glutes — the body becomes better able to redistribute the significant amount of force that is placed through the body’s joints during NBA gameplay.
    These concepts are regularly utilized by athletic training and performance specialists to decrease an athlete’s risk for injury, as highlighted by The Athletic‘s Sam Vecenie on Twitter.     Yep, and Shamit posted that he did a windmill in warm-ups too, though no video of that.

    I don't know about next week. It's possible, of course, since we only have this game and then a bunch of days off before the Lakers game, but I'd be thinking more of the week after that, maybe? That way Zion could return in a home game, which I think the FO would probably like. Utah on the 6th, maybe?

    Things are getting exciting again! The team is playing much better and Zion is almost ready!

    Trajan Langdon said they plan to have him practice this week during the 4 day off period. And start ramping him back up.
