Former Pels coach has the Suns balling

5-2 wins over the clippers and Sixers

Still one of the dumbest firings in nba history

If you dont know who I'm talking about, Mr Monty Williams.

I’m really happy for him. He keeps this up he is the one that might be in the playoffs.

It’s not so much firing Monty as it was hiring Gentry. Just a huge mistake

We started great last season but it all matters how you finish. Zion was key to this season, but since he is injured everything will be forgiven how the season ends (+health).
Actual proof Greivis Vasquez can throw Anthony Davis an Alley-OOP on an (kinda) fastbreak!

Couldn't have said it any better.

Gayle & that Dennis guy went the cheap route. I think this is partially why Davis left.

Still think firing him after getting an underachieving team to the playoffs was a gross mistake.

I'm so happy he's having early success in Phoenix. He's one of the most genuine dudes in the league. No one deserves it more. Still wish we had him.

    Couldn't agree more.

What is more surprising? Their start or ours?

    JFC.

Our roster is a bunch of kids. Like. For real. Almost our entite team would still be in college had they gone four years. People are delusional with this rebirth. The first steps are supposed to be shaky.
BI, Zion, and CJ had a net rating of +3 when on the court together. BI and Zion had a +13.4, BI and CJ had a +13.2, Zion and CJ was just +5.4.

BI and Zion worked. BI and CJ worked. It was CJ and Zion and all three together that didn't work.

Definitely theirs. It’s hard to ever expect a good start here with Alvin.

The Suns have the youngest roster in the NBA.

Suns roster is a bunch of kids too. Difference is Monty prioritizes defense and especially discipline.

The only kids in terms of first time players are NAW and Hayes; they’re barely playing right now. All of our big minutes players are 3+ seasons in

Exactly! People want to make excuses for a guy that can’t get his roster ready to play. Age has nothing to do with basketball skill and discipline.

Gayle was not in charge when Monty was let go, nor when Gentry was hired.

If you're talking about retaining Gentry, then I feel like that's more of a Griffin thing: Gayle freed up the money for literally everything else he asked for, so I can't imagine that she would have drawn the line at a new coach.
    Basketball.

It was said multiple times during the GM hiring process that one of the keys was to retain Gentry. One of the reasons why Ferry backed away. The guy being hired was expected to retain Gentry.

I’m holding out hope Griff. now sees nobody likes this guy, brings in someone like Lue to coach team. A coach the players can relate too and would really get under skin of Klutch Sports.

Curse this world where no one changes and dogmatically sticks to some arbitrarily observed course of action a random fan somewhere identifies and assumes everyone else is clinging to.

If only we lived in a world were people can and do change their minds, even...or that just because a person is doing a perceptively bad job in one area, they can't, say, be moved into a higher position of authority but safely removed from the areas they are deficient in.

But apparently, we live in the former world.

First, Ferry did not back away. He was given the chance to resign once the decision was made to hire Griffin. Griffin was given free reign over all basketball operations. To keep Gentry as the coach was his decision.

I'm going to need to see at least one of these sources for this rumor, because nothing I've heard during or after aligns with that. If Griffin wants to get a new coach, there's no way I'll believe he doesn't have the ability to do that.

I’ll look for it. Scott Kushner and some other people talked about it during the hiring.

Here is one article that talks about it.

It doesn’t mean Griff doesn’t have the ability. It just means that when he was hired, Benson wanted the candidates to give Alvin a chance.

I would be on board with giving Vinson or Finch a chance to finish out this season
