Thread: October 25th - New Orleans Pelicans VS Dallas Mavericks - 0-1

FTA disparity: 14 for the Mavs, 6 for the Pels. Also worth considering, beyond the appalling play from the 2nd quarter pels.
    Basketball.

We need to trade Jrue while he still has value because geez, if he keeps playing like garbage he's going to be worthless on the market.

I just keep feeling like our starters are a terrible fit. I feel like Lonzo in general is a bad fit as our team is constructed. He rarely drives to the goal and so defenses just slack off him and dare him shoot 3s. He makes all our other players on offense have to work harder because it's 4v5.

Lonzo works but you have to have the shooters around him. The problem is Jrue has been garbage so even if you wanted to sit Lonzo you can't play Jrue as a main PG.

Things the second half needs more of:

    - Ball screens. We ran a lot of ball screen, PNR type action in the first, and less in the second.
    - Passing. Collapsing into isoball just isn't good enough and it's not a consistent source of offense for good teams.
    - Switching on defense and help.

    Things it needs less of:

    - Isoball
    - Trap heavy defense

That confused me as well. We got hit a few times, and the refs swallowed their whistles.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Pretty interesting that the NBA GMs were polled on who they would take right now to start a team and Karl Anthony Towns came out first on the list. Kid is a beast that some can maybe admit now that AD isn’t god here.

LoL you can’t be serious! 1 1/2 game and now we need to trade Jrue before he loses his market value. Now some of the outrageous things you have said in the past make more sense..

We need to quit settling for long 2s.

So I guess we just aren't getting foul calls? Saving them all up for Zion, I suppose.

Let’s all remember we are playing another actual basketball team trying to accomplish the same thing as us. As much as some wanna act like Dallas sucks they don’t and have 2 legit stars. We are also without our best player which you know usually makes a difference in basketball. Take Doncic or Porzingis off the Mavs and let’s see how good they look. We have a young team let’s pump the brakes. It’s halftime!!

I like Brandon Ingram and Zo. A few months ago I didn’t feel that way, but they are showing why they were top 3 picks.

What good would trading jrue do? If the new guy doesn't come in and play well after 1.5 games to your satisfaction, you'll want him traded too.

Luka, or Trae, or Zion. KAT is great, he really is, perhaps the best big man 3 point shooter ever already, but he's monstrously soft, extremely temperamental, still sucks on defense despite being several years deep into his career now, etc etc.

The Mavs are going to make the playoffs this season, book it.

Clearly this is tongue in cheek, especially before seeing Zion with this team. The fact stands that this starting lineup has struggled and a big part of that is Jrue has been garbage to start the season. He needs to step up or be shipped out.

Hell, I would take Embiid over Kat.

NO! I want instant gratification! FIRE EVERYONE! TRADE JRUE! I don't WANNA wait till our young players develop. I don't WANNA wait until Gentry figures out which rotation combos are most efficient. I don't WANNA acknowledge that he's already replacing E'Twuan Moore with Frank Jackson off the bench!

    WAH!!!! WAH!!!!

I think it's extremely fair to criticize the guy that the Pelicans spent all off season saying he's going to be a MVP candidate. The PELICANS set the expectation of what Jrue should be doing and he has beyond failed so far in achieving that.

Interesting point here: You know what Jrue averaged through the first 2 games last year?

12.5 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 43% from the floor, 0% from 3. The assists were good, of course, but basically it: everything else in his box score looked pretty pants.

By the end of the year, he had picked up, was 21/5/8, made an all-defensive team, and had a strong argument for all-NBA.

Just gotta be patient with him. He's usually a little slow to start the year. Yes that sucks, but it's not a huge deal.

I wouldn't, but only because Embiid's knees disintegrate in a stiff breeze.

So because the Pelicans hyped Jrue...you're blaming and criticizing Jrue for it?
