Doesn't matter. George is a bona fide star and will energize a fan base with his arrival. Doesn't matter that he's leaving, fans will still hold out hope he's staying. Bledsoe nor Lin will have that kinda impact. And I said Moore and Anjinca which combined still make less than Carrol. Lot easier to move those two smaller contracts than one the size of Carrols....
Non-contending teams taking on massively bad contracts for a couple of years from contending teams in exchange for young assets and draft picks has become such a huge strategy lately in the NBA.......how are there still posters that don't think it exists....?
OK. history and current actions mean nothing. The Pelicans are one of only 3 teams never to have gone into the tax. The method in which they have approached free agency and this offseason is very indicative of trying to avoid the tax. I am not saying that if a star became available (ala Cousins deal last year), that they would not take the plunge. However, it is obvious how they are proceeding currently.
Reading the tea leaves, the mindset seems to be "don't cross the tax unless you have a very good reason."
Ok it must be the field I work in. There, history can be used as a guide, but as things change, it ultimately means exactly nothing.
When has this franchise ever had TWO top 15 (top 10 according to some) players on the roster as they do now? Does that help clear up why you can't be biased by history while ignoring the present reality right in front of your face?
I was a Hornet fan when they were in Charlotte (I lived in North Carolina at that time). I said the same thing you guys said, and then watched them leave to New Orleans. Then I became a fan of them here when I returned to this area. I want them to stay in New Orleans, but I don't underestimate the possibilities of a team leaving after watching this franchise leave North Carolina where basketball is King.
Call me optimistic but I think something is about to happen. Even if its not big news, it'll be something.
Based off of what?![]()
I live in New Orleans and wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the team left once their lease ends and/or Benson passes away. The support here is tepid at best
LOL now some are trying to make it look like we are cheap when it comes to paying players. Tell that to the people who complain about how we overpaid Asik, Hill, and Jrue.
You remember a couple of years ago when we would hear attendance benchmarks that had to be met? Do you hear that anymore? No.
The franchise has never been as stable as it is now.
Ultimately, the new TV contracts have flushed teams with so much money that small markets like ours aren't as disadvantaged as they used to be. We're fine.
PLUS, once we start getting to the playoffs again, the attendance issues will disappear anyway.
