I would trade Asik for Knight. Less money owed for fewer years for Phoenix. Although I'd go after Bledsoe a lot harder.

I agree. My ideal (while semi-realistic) off-season move would be to trade for Bledose. Do that, then resign Jrue and we've got a damn good backcourt.

    Brandon Knight isn’t the answer.

The FO love Jrue Holiday wrongly or rightly and they have no attachment to Brandon Knight in place of Jrue.

Trading Knight for Asik would have me interested though.

Len is FA next season which they won’t want to pay and Chandler is ageing and sometimes injured, so they need another C.
They save about 20M and less one year on their books with this trade.

This would be plan B if we can’t get a Lin or Bledsoe using our 2018 pick.

People assume we need a pass first PG next to true, but think about how well Jrue and Tyreke played together even though it was a small sample size.
Jrue just needs another combo guard who can handle the ball.
At the moment too many teams know that Jrue is the only guy in the finishing 5 that can handle the ball and he is usually double teamed.

Use the MLE to bring back Cunningham and sign Justin Holiday using the RE.

The team isn’t perfect but I think it’s a playoff team next season.

    Knight/Frazier/Cook
    Holiday/Moore/Crawford
    Hill/Justin Holiday/Toupane/Q-Pon
    Davis/Cunningham/Diallo
    Cousins/Ajinca

Jrue Holiday has always been a combo guard, that has played mostly at PG. He is at his best sharing the ball-handling and distributing duties.

I will repeat that statement over and over, until everyone gets it.

Jrue Holiday is at he best when he is watching the opposing guard light him up on the scoreboard.
Let's not even talk about his cold maple syrup first step off the dribble

Why not both? Asik + Frazier + 2017 second rounder + 2018 first rounder FOR Bledsoe and Knight. Let Holiday walk, Cunningham opts out.

Excluding minimal guys like Jordan Crawford and Quinn Cook (what are those guys, less than $1m combined?), that puts us at an estimated $99,305,824 with 9 (11) players under contract (excluding Crawford, Cook, etc.) with their 2017-2018 salaries.

    Anthony Davis $23,775,506
    DeMarcus Cousins $16,784,031
    Solomon Hill $12,236,535
    E'Twaun Moore $8,445,024
    Alexis Ajinca $5,186,798
    Quincy Pondexter $3,853,931
    Cheick Diallo $905,249
    Eric Bledsoe $14,500,000
    Brandon Knight $13,618,750

Jrue to me is a borderline top 15 PG that works ideally when he has a lot of other ball handlers and facilitators that can share the offensive responsibilities.

Defensively he is streaky but should be a very good cog in the machine if he is in a lineup that doesn't have any notable weak links.

But I am actually struggling to see how Jrue vs. say a Jeff Teague or Darren Collison really pushes your prospects up much, if at all with this roster and coach?

None of those attributes that you mentioned scream to run and re-sign Holiday. Top 15 is sketchy IMO but that's your opinion. I really don't see anything in Jrue that others do. I don't see stellar defense and I don't see stellar offense. He's middle of the road. On top of that, he's going to ask for a ton of money. I'll pass but to each his own.
The most overused words on Pelicansreport.com. Wrongly, I might add.

ELITE - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

GREAT - notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding

These words should not be used lightly

The pairing of Knight and Bledsoe in the same backcourt didn't really work in Phoenix. I wouldn't want to repeat that experiment.

I'm curious how much is too much for those of you insisting we need to resign Holiday. Is there a price that is too much? Or are you hellbent on resigning him no matter the cost?

What's your breaking point, if you have one?

No more than AD.....any more he can **** off

  14. #264
If you bring back Jrue for more than $20m, you also need to get used to seeing more Diallo (which I wouldn't mind). Having so much tied up in our core 3 would prevent us from going after too many established players, and force us to play younger, cheaper guys more often, so Diallo would see a dramatic uptick in minutes, unless of course we keep Demps and in his infinite wisdom signs another big to this lineup when what we need are shooters, which is a total #pelslife move.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

I don't think I have seen anyone say anything more than 25 million. Most seem to max out around 23 or so.

Jrue's gonna get somewhere between $22-27 million per year. I dont know if people realize how much his max really is when they say someone will max him, but it's north of $30 million. He won't get that.

I'd be comfortable going up to $25 million.

    FML if that happens.

This will be Jrue's third contract. AD is only on his second contract. That's how it works.

There's plenty of guys that aren't as good as AD that make more than him.

Obviously, but they should be on this team.

Hearing from a few people that work within the org that Jrue does not plan on coming back. They are guessing he wants to play for a bigger market.

Wondering what would be the next step after that? Assuming he moves on. Hopefully it would be some type of sign and trade so we dont get left with nothing?

I don't know anybody that works over there anymore, but I buy this 1,000,000%.
Jrue could have easily said at some point that he wants to play for the Pelicans if they can work the financials out. Instead, crickets.

That is the best news yet.
