Jrue is not our third best player. He just happens to be the player getting the run,
Crawford would be the third best player if givin the run of minutes.
Jrue is like keeping a QB that cant win 10 games as a starter in the NFL yet he is a good family man WTF !!!

The Pelicans need to build out the roster with mid level complimentary players to surround the top tier talents. When the Heat were winning championships, they had Mike Miller sharpshooting three pointers in the finals. We don't have that type of guy on the roster. Jrue is our 3rd best player, getting rid of him isn't going to improve the team. We need a better group of role players more than we need to be trying to replace Jrue.

the heat had that impact guard and wing that could win any game and jrue is not that player or imo will be that player in the 4 or 5 years here with AD and boogie.......imo i think we can get good role players without jrue and be able to sign a impact player in 2 or 3 years to contend....

Nah. Crawford is good for providing a spark off the bench because he is adept at scoring. But he doesn't facilitate offense for other guys. I don't think he would be a good fit on the floor with AD and Cousins and I definitely don't think he is a better all around player than Jrue.

We don't need Jrue to be the impact player who wins any game. AD and Cousins are the impact players for this team, obviously. Fill out the rest of the roster and keep Jrue, and we can contend next year not 2 or 3 years from now.

Jrue is not a premier player in this league period.
He is a injury waiting to happen guy.
He is slow as cold maple syrup off the dribble. He is a turn over machine on top of that.

A lot of people with less than favorable opinions of Jrue.

    Fine.

Maybe one or two have actually suggested a single damn thing to do as an alternative.

you honestly believe that AD and boogie can take over a series against top 3 teams without a impact 3rd player and win?.....was the heat team that you just mention that won those titles built like you are talking about now?.......the heat,,,cavs,,,and GS all have that 3rd dog that can be an ex factor and win games,,,is jrue that player for us?.....

What team can you compare to the Pelicans? We have the top 2 best big men in the league playing on the same court together, both with exceptional shooting range and ball handling ability. I don't know of any team that had a frontcourt like the one we have now.

I do honestly think this team can compete without obtaining another all-NBA player. We have two all-NBA players, that's a big deal. The Spurs are a top 3 team and they only have 2 all-NBA players (Leonard and Aldridge). They filled out the roster with good players and pieces that compliment each other.

Jrue is not the problem that is holding the Pelicans back.

If you like bad defense and turnovers give Jrue the max.

Now your thread is starting to make sense. At first I wondered why the only options in the poll were to get rid of Jrue or to pay him the max. Couldn't understand why there was no option to keep Jrue without paying a max contract. Now I get it. You didn't want to present a sensible option that involved keeping Holiday because the intent was to make a thread for Jrue haters to trash him.

I am really not keen on resigning Jrue, especially at a price close to the max... but I admid, that there are not plenty of alternatives. I am really eager to hear those from those people who don't want to resign Jrue... but in the end there are just a few how mention any alternatives at all. To me a clear indication that there probably just aren't that many realistic alternatives in the first place. I personally hope (but don't believe) that the Pels try to get one of those better alternatives and just settle on Jrue if the fail to acquire for example someone like Bledsoe...

But hearing some of those people firing on Holiday it sounds like it's just a question of will to obtain the perfect PG to add to our 2 stars. In my mind this is not just a question of who we would want or even if this special player would want to play here - as long as we have players like Asik and Ajica on our cap it stays a question of financial possibilities. And I see many, many (not all) seemingly just ignoring that matter.

    Not sign Jrue
    Stretch Asik
Use cap space to sign 1 or 2 wings.
Trade Moore, Pondexter, and 2018 top 3 protected first for Bledsoe or Rubio or trade Moore and Pondexter for Brandon Knight as a fall back plan.

There is your off-season plan. All these people acting like we have no alternatives but to sign Holiday are parrots. You don't pay average players max to near max contracts and expect to be successful.

Dude it is a poll thread. Anyway Knicks may offer the max. Think money don't talk see Ryan Anderson.

Please post more. This board needs more reasonable people. It's getting unbearable.

To your point, there really aren't many alternatives that leave us in a better situation than just resigning Jrue. The only possible replacements in FA are Patty Mills (who most likely is staying in SA and there is a distinct possibility that the market will overvalue him out of our cap space), Derrick Rose (shoot me), Shaun Livingston (can we afford to play someone who literally refuses to shoot 3s? Also he's 33 I believe), or Darren Collison (not a horrible option but not in Jrue's league as a defender and almost definitely better suited coming off the bench).

The 2 other options that I keep seeing are Brandon Knight, who has been garbage for 2 straight years and would essentially be a prayer at a reclamation project, and Eric Bledsoe, who would actually probably be an upgrade but I cannot imagine we have the assets to get him unless another Boogie situation arises.

Jrue is definitely limited, but I firmly believe that resigning him is pretty much our only realistic option this offseason. It gives us room to fill another hole with our limited assets (cap space and picks) instead of plugging the one that would be created by letting him walk. I would love to keep him under 20/year, but an overpay seems like a better option than the alternative.

Jrue is not a consistent impact 3rd player. Bledsoe would be.

An average injury-prone player on a $25 million a year contract is virtually untradable and easily becomes the worst contract in franchise history. This statement is not hyperbole. If Demps pays Jrue this contract, he is a fool, and this franchise will be mediocre at best for years to come.

The problem with this line of thinking is it's all based on this next season. But what about the next season and so forth? If you give Jrue a 5 year near max money and he's availability and/or performances are inconsisent as they are now (or even worse he regresses)that contract becomes worst than Asik's or Gordon's. This is what people seem to be ignoring. People killed me here when I strongly criticized Demps for the Gordon deal. This again has the potential to be worse.

  20. #145
Not that this probably matters, but there's a disconnect between saying 1- Don't sign Jrue to a max b/c we'll have more future flexibility with the rising cap and 2- Jrue at 25m will become the worst contract in the league. The standard of what constitutes a bad contract shifts the higher the cap rises, i.e. Asik.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

I think the mostly likely outcome in all of this is that Jrue remains a Pelican and doesn't get a max contract. But this option is a glaring omission in your poll.

And that's a fair assessment of the situation. This contract will absolutely be risky. But I think he has a higher floor than Asik or Gordon because when he is playing he is pretty much always a net positive. And he fills a huge need as a perimeter stopper.

I'm gonna be honest in that I believe that everything we do this offseason should revolve around next year. I wish we would have gone a different direction a few seasons ago, but we've painted ourselves into a corner next season in that the next decade of the franchise hinges on Boogie re-signing. We pushed all our chips to the middle of the table with that trade. And I think Jrue helps us get a decent playoff seed more than any reasonable alternative that I can think of.

So you are basically saying he is going to take a pay cut to stay here? What if he has the chance to move closer to his wife while she is getting treatment?

Again money talks just ask Ryan Anderson.

  24. #149
If I can get Bledsoe or CP3 I definitely let Jrue walk.

I don't think the market value for Jrue is a max contract. This season wasn't his best, so his stock is not that high right now. Case and point, everybody on this board doubting that Jrue can be a viable 3rd option. Why would teams want to give a max contract to a guy who supposedly isn't good enough to be the 3rd best player on a team? Everyone on here is trashing Jrue's ability like he sucks, if that's true why would other GMs want to pay him a max contract?

Does money talk, or is Jrue wanting to move closer to where his wife gets treatment? You're saying he will go to the team that pays him the most, then you're saying he would potentially take a lower offer to move closer to North Carolina. Which is it? I don't know the particulars of Lauren's recovery so hard to say. We do know the Holiday brothers want to play on the same team, and the Pelicans are in the market for a wing player like Justin.
