Thread: Draft Prospects Discussion

The key is identifying those that will.
It is hard to have a discussion with people who don't actually watch the games and just go off of what the talking heads say or box scores. They tell you we can't draft a guy because of his projected spot. Skal was projected to be a top 2 pick at one point, things change. The tourney and the combine will change things. Some guys will declare who they didn't think would and some won't who they thought would. When discussing any of these guys you have to preface it with if they remain healthy of course. So with that said. If Valentine stays healthy he will be one of the 5 best players from this class. Now would I draft him top 5. Prob not. If Ingram and Brown are gone I try to trade pack for multiple picks and take a combination of guys. Hoping a guy like Valentine/Hield/Murray is still there or take Baldwin/Jackson. Then look for a SF or C best available.

I have a question, I just watched some Dunn highlights and cannot remember why so many on hers cooled out on him. What's the consensus on here regarding Dunn?

I think someone mentioned injuries, but know nothing of it

    We take our pick.
We trade Tyreke for a late 1st.

    Valentine/Hield
We get shooting and ball movement like Gentry wants.

I'm just happy we've got multiple picks to begin with.
Let's fill out the end of the roster with young talent instead of minimum guys with low ceilings.

I've never cooled. Just high powered offensive players are easier to get hyped for, me thinks.

He can be a great player, but his injuries and jumper, combined with him being turnover prone has given people pause. I would love to get him, but I don't think he is the can't miss prospect like he was earlier this season. I would be ecstatic to grab Tyler Unis in the second round if he is still there. Hell, I would even move up to get the Kid. It's something really special about him.

    This was my thought.

I'll tell you this, With the lowest TV watches in the NBA, and lack of support, this Organization has to make DRAMATIC changes to this team, roster, and identity. They failed bad. I hate to see a man lose his job, but Demps and others have to go, we will need some excitement just from a marketable standpoint for fans to still on board.

This off season will be very interesting. And the draft will be very important. Won't be suprised to see us VERY aggressive on Draft day.

Yes. We definitely need the Saints-like overhaul like they started last season.

Invest in youth and get multiple picks, even if we have to trade away most of our current players.
I see this draft as fairly deep.

Hopefully Dell will be aggresive with selecting players from the draft. Not to trade/sell picks.

If they give him another chance he should.
If not, the next guy will.

Dunn is gonna be a monster, like a slightly less athletic but much better defensive john wall.

I disagree with the Wall comparison. There are few human beings not named Russel Westbrook that can run the way John Wall does. That's what makes him the player he is.

I'm surprised no one has gone this direction, but I believe Dunn is a LOT like Jrue Holiday. He's a 6'4 PG/SG. Tenacious defender that has promise as a scorer, and even a shooter at times. But his shooting has been very inconsistent at this point, and he's not your prototypical PG. Now I would be plenty happy to have two Jrue Holiday's on my team. But it does leave you slightly under sized at the 2 guard spot, with only ok at best outside shooting. The defense, and ball handling would be very very strong.

In short, he's a better option than many. But maybe not the homerun fit we could hopefully find.

multiple picks....... I'd totally love to be able to trade back a little and get two 1st rounders. After that, possibly pair our 2nd rounders to move up to a late 1st or really early 2nd

    Let's say.... Denver

15 Timothe Luwawu- exactly what we don't have at SF

18 Diamond Stone- the banging back-to-the-basket center we covet to compliment Davis for 20 min. a game

31 Melo Trimble- his draft stock has fallen so much he may be grabable with our 2 2nd rounders

    or

    15 Skal Labissiere

    18 Furkan Korkmaz

    28 Taurean Prince

I could see these three starting for the New Orleans Pelicans championship

Diamond Stone (Skal Labissiere will never slip as far as mocks currently have him doing so)

    Timothe Luwawu

    Demetrius Jackson

Note: I understand none of this will ever happen. If you had picks 15, 18 and 31 let's hear who you would grab

fair enough, i didn't compare him to jrue because i feel that dunn is more athletic and jrue has a better jumper. Dunn is starting to get some comparisons to jordan clarkson though, but i believe dunn is much stronger than clarkson.

Looks like the Kings are going to beat the Lakers tonight which is good. They are crushing them at halftime so I would mark it down as a win. I don't see anyway we are higher then the 7th pick in the draft. We will likely be 6th but we definitely have a shot at 5th if the Wolves can step it up while we hopefully lose games. Don't want AD or Jrue to get hurt but I wouldn't mind both of them straining a muscle haha.

Anybody watching the Vandy game? Baldwin looks meh

  16. #491
Baldwin needs another year in the oven before he is ready for prime time. Seriously, that was a disappointing performance.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

I haven't been following this thread consistently but what's the consensus on Jamal Murray here? I haven't seen much so I'm really asking what's this guys negatives? What I have seen makes him seem like the best fit for us at our current draft spot and I don't see many negatives.

He seems great coming off screens, the guy can catch and shoot and consistently make shots without even having his feet set or being squared up with the goal. I like him and Hield both but Hield seems like a bit of a chucker while Murray has great shot selection. These two seem to compliment the type of system Gentry wants to run best, but Murray seems to rely more on his IQ to play productively while Hield seems to rely more on his athleticism and skill.

Our last 8 games will be against lotto teams. We will find a way to screw our selves.

Well I don't think going up to 7 is screwing ourselves. We aren't the only team wanting to have a high pick so it's not like we choose our destiny. If we land at 7 so be it. I don't think picking 7 is that much different then picking 6.

I don't know if anybody saw Winston Shepard from SDSU get his triple double tonight but that kid is going to be a player. He goes to the same school as Leonard did and has a lot of similiar traits. If he can add an outside shot to his game he can be a possible star in the NBA. Would love to take this kid in the 2nd round. He's 6'8 and very long as one of the best defensive wings in college basketball. He's a very good passer with great vision and is used as a point forward by Fisher at times. If he can just improve his outside shot he can be a great 3 and D player for us. My favorite 2nd round prospect in the draft with his two way potential. Maybe he can work out with Leonard in the off season and have some of that run off on him. I have always like Fisher for SDSU and followed them. He had a lot of hype coming in and was expected to leave early but his scoring never improved as much as you would like. Lots of untapped potential offensively with this kid.

very good player, and a sharp shooter, I kind of see some CJ McCollum in him, not the best athlete, good deadly from 3, can create for himself, and can pass.

Going from picking 6 to 7 doesn't hurt as much as going from 21% chance of top 3 pick to a 15% chance.

We will likely pick 10-12 is what I'm saying. Please don't understate the bad fortune of this team. Listen guys I know I been very pessimistic lately, but I'm just preparing for the worst, hoping for the best. With this team, it seems like anytime where there is a chance for a silver lining, they find a way to destroy it and become let downs. I don't care if we get the number 1 pick or KD, as a evolving Pels fan I'm learning to tamper expectations and prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Here is reality, reality is this idiotic team will play "spoiler" and try to "finish strong" and show flashes of what a team we can be and build for the next season. This will result in us having the 11 pick likey and this Organization will review Dell Demps and the lasting impact of this team showing potential and keep him. Benson and Dell see the potential and want to add to it quickly, so Draft night we trade our pick to the Kings for Rudy Gay, Darren Collison, and second rounder. Dell then trade both Second rounders for a veteran/locker room leader.

We will try to resign Ryno, preaching the "consistency" flawed philosophy and we will fail. Ryno leaves and we sign a 3 point specialist.

All fans try to find hope and remain positive trying to sell themselves on this team and say injuries were the main reason we sucked, so they try to avoid the inevitable for the 2016 season, which is regardless of what we may think, this current system and team WILL fail us.

Us playing lotto teams will only give us the blind optimism that tis franchise has been having for the past 4 years.

I think our 2nd rounders will be more valuable than a late first. They're supposed to be pretty high and we'll have guys with similar value locked in at a cheaper rookie contract in the 2nd rd.

I feel like this draft is our best chance at grabbing a small forward weather it us being a top 3 pick or grabbing Luwawu it need to be done.
