Thread: Draft Prospects Discussion

Like any group, the Pels have multiple personalities on the team . It's media hype about you have to beat your chest or play a certain position to lead. Who is the team leader? Last year, there was leadership. Was this leadership generated Monty or the team dynamics changed among players from last year. I noticed, when Monty's wife passed, three named players plus others attended her funeral. Does that even mean anything about last season's leadership ?

I honestly think Qpon was a big voice/leader for us last year. Everything changed once we got him.

True. It's not the best guy on the court that has to be the voice, just somebody has to be the voice. I remember reading years ago how Eric Snow wasn't a great player, but what kept him in the league was he was a voice that people listened to. Sometimes in a sport where commercialization is king, the guy who doesn't have a commercial endorsement has to be the one with the voice.

If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Alpha Dog refers to simply a winner at all situations for the team. Someone to lead by example and do whatever it takes to make sure there team is winning, or inspiring his/her troops to never give up nor suffer defeat. An Alpha Dog represents team spirit and soul. They carry grit, determination, and a "lead dog" instinct to take over or set up guys for all of the position of winning.

Ingram and Simmons may have that someday, but for a team like that Pels who haven't had a player like that since CP3 who exemplify the traits of an Alpha, a true leader, then that would be my concern. AD may be there some day, I see flashes, but he is still young and not there yet. Give me a Kris Dunn, Demetrius Jackson, Denzel Valentine, Buddy Helid type to assist him. But I would welcome Simmons or Ingram talents.

Btw Curry, Westbrook, Durant, etc. ALL showed potential of becoming the Alpha even in college, and they weren't screaming and dancing so I don't know why your so stuck on keep typing that.

And also keep in mind I'm only speaking from a perspective of us not getting the 1st or second pick. I'm not saying I prefer those guards I mentioned in my previous post over the two best talnets in the draft, I'm just not expecting us to get them. LA is destined to get Simmons by all means necessary . And Philly or Boston will snab Simmons. So the rest would leave the Pels to either trade their pick or choose a guy that slides into their lap ala Miley Cyrus.

Can we start a different thread called arguing over what an alpha dog is and get this thread back on track.

Isn't that (the Alpha dog) discussion part of the draft discussion? We are mentioning Dunn having it, while Ingram and Simmons don't.

For the record, the Alpha in Miami wasn't Lebron, it was DWade. He was the one that got the guys to come down. He was the one picking fights with Danny Granger when Granger would step up to Lebron. He was the guy who demanded things from everyone.

I am warming up to the idea of Jakob Poeltl as our pick should all other sexy options be gone. Against top prospects Chriss (Washington), Rabb (Cal), and Jefferson (Duke) Jakob is putting up a solid 22/10/1.8...and college basketball isn't even a big mans game. The guy runs well, and is very athletic. If he is there, I like him.

Who is the one or two guys on this team that holds players accountable when we lose or is struggling on the court? I'll wait.

During an interview with Advocate after being blown out, EG stated no one is being held accountable. Perk was signed to be the so-called alpha dog. As Perk stated "I was not brought here for this!!!! Never believed Evans was the leader on court. I have zero doubt he's the social leader.
I think fans believe there is a direct correlation between vocal and leadership. Players lead by their unselfish play. When there is the lack or leadership in the wrong, it is Gentry's role to lead and hold players accountable.

Would MJ allow his team to lose to games and not ask for the last shot instead deferring to Grayson Allen?

Am I doing your hyperbole thing right???
Durant is exactly what you are not calling an "alpha" lol! Your whole argument is so flawed. You are completely ignoring what Simmons has around him and everything else that goes into winning games. Keep believing in basketball one star who is an "alpha" because he can yell and beat his chest will win it all. Man having Allen take the last shot at times really is so terrible isn't it. I forget again this is a one man sport.. MJ never deferrd to Kerr for one of the biggest moments in his career did he? I guess Lebron isn't an alpha either for deferring. Go on with your ridiculous argument and you know it is. Pure media hype watching ESPN making this seem like it's a leader quality.

Durant and Curry do nothing you say of except win. How is having a very good team and being the best player have anything to do with being some alpha winner? Who was our alpha last year? People saying QPon changed everything yea because he was the 1st average to above average SF we have had in years. Go read what you posted and you are basically back tracking on what an alpha was to you because you realized how ridiculous it was.

No not what you said at all. Go read again if you can't remember. It was Simmons and Ingram are not winners because they aren't alphas. Your tired of the nice guy bs and want someone who can be an alpha lol.

Wouldn't mind getting Jakob Poeltl. This dude is an absolute beast and is going to be a star in the NBA. I don't want to draft a C but I definitely wouldn't hate the pick. I'm not a Knicks fan but wish they had a pick in the top 10 so they could grab this kid. Would be awesome to see Poeltl and Porzingis play together. I like seeing teams in the NBA be competitive and it would make the East tougher. Whoever gets this kid is going to get a damn good old school C and I wouldn't complain if it was us.

I would love to grab Demetrius Jackson if Kris Dunn is not available. Dude is a Eric Bledsoe clone.

I like him to. But iw would suck to not fill a missing spot on our starting 5 with the pick. It'd be hard for me to pick out of him and Melo. Id go with Melo

How many of these guys had those qualities in their freshmen year?

Demetrius Jackson is so much better then Melo Tremble, honestly Melo is ranked number 7 for pgs for me. Tyler Unis is not getting any love when I believe he is special as well. Dude IQ is off the charts.

I'm leaning on the 2 and 3 being our worst spots and the most bang for the buck that would instantly start. BDJ being an example of a decent player but thrown into starting. I'm assuming we won't pick very high so I'm about grabbing a couple wings. Valentine doesn't give me the upside I personally want but won't hurt. I'm gonna grab Luwawa and Bacon by maybe trading Reke for a late pick. I think between them two and Qpon they can hold down the 2 and 3 spots and I'm still grabbing one in FA. My 2 second rounders are PG and C and I still want Shawn Long from UL Lafayette but could be an undrafted guy

    Holiday, Payton 3rd
    Qpon, Bacon, BDJ
Batum(cause after trading reke we can come close to affording him), Luwawa
Davis, Ryno (last to sign with bird rights), Long
    Asik, Ajinca, Perkins, Hammond

It's my fantasy at least but I think is possible.

somebody is going to get a very good player with Jackson....
"we might make dollars, but we don't necessarily make sense"

"always be sincere....whether you mean it or not"

The more I look at Jackson the more he becomes 1b to Dunn 1a. Dunn is pretty turnover prone and is a streaker shooter, but his upside is off the charts. Jackson IMO is more athletic and more of a better shooter. But Dunn is a better passser.

Man Hield is looking good. He just threw an oop I could just imagine AD on the other end of it.

He has the scoring/motor/leadership we need on this team.
