Thread: Tank?

    PEOPLE

    Pheonix are gonna be 3-5
    Utah will be 4-4
    Minnesotah will be 4-4
    Portland are 4-5
    The Mavs are 4-4
    Denver are 4-4
    MEMPHIS ARE 3-6

    We are 1-7.

    thats 8 games.

Theres no reason to believe any of those teams win more than 45 games. and to make the playoffs we can lose to one of them.

    Lets call that Utah.

So after the first 17 games, we have the 2nd easiest schedule in the nba.

If we go 5-12 after the first 17 games, we just need to go 40-25 to have a good chance at making the playoffs.

    thats exactly 50 win pace.

Considering we won 45 games last year, in a much harder schedule...

Also, last year Erman took `10 games for his "system" to get settled.

in those first 10 games, they were much worse than us on defense.

Anyone else watching the Wolves vs Warriors. The Wolves are young like us too, but do they have some spectacular talent across the board. I was hesitant to allow myself to think it before, but these guys will be in a fight to the finish for one of those final two playoff spots.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Had a blast watching that game. As a Pels fan I'm terrified of them for the next decade, but as a basketball fan I can't wait to see what they look like in their primes.

Speaks to the value of building through the draft. Like OKC before them, they are poised to become a force in the league for the foreseeable future.

I know you and I are on record about this.... oh well, too late now

And don't forget, Sam Mitchell was once the coach of the year, so it's not like they have some slouch on the bench.

Nice mix of vets (KG, Miller, Martin, Prince), and youth (Wiggins, Towns, Rubio, Dieng, Levine, Pek).

If the Twolves find another big man who is solid to play next to Towns they will be dominant in a couple of years. Lavine has the potential to be an allstar and at times looks like it. I think he will be a very good all around 2 guard in a couple of years when he gets a more consistent shot. Wiggins is still growing into his body and will soon be one of the top SFs while Towns has shown to be worth every bit of the hype he got. That team will be a force to deal with for a long time which is another reason being in the East would be great haha.

Eh I think Twolves are more the "recovery from losing their super star" model. Love got them Wiggins (who was drafted by the cavs) and allowed them to be the dumpster fire that landed Towns. Dieng was a very solid piece, Shabazz has turned his career around nicely avoiding that bust label. If Rubio can stay healthy and Lavine can really grow (cause I think he is still super raw) they should have a pretty nice squad going forward.

That Clippers tank job tonight was more epic than any of our tank jobs. The race for Simmons is on.

About the T'Wolves, they have built something special. It's probably too early to call them a playoff contender this season, just like it's too early to say we're not a playoff contender this season, but I think they're building something special there. They took the slow approach and it paid off. They moved on from Love and got a future star SF in Wiggins. They land the number one pick and got a future star PF in Towns. The two of them could be the best 1-2 punch in the league, five years from now. They're both so athletic and raw. To see what they're doing now, it's scary to think of what they could be when those two hit their prime. Rubio should be good for a long time, since his game isn't predicated on athleticism. The three of them could make one heck of a big 3. Levine has scary potential and Bazz has turned into a decent player for them.

I really wish we had taken this approach as well. I know it doesn't work out all that often, as there are plenty of teams in the lottery year after year. When a team is patient though, and draft the right guys, that's how you build something special. I really hope we hold onto our pick this year. If this team is fully healthy, I don't think we're a lottery team. But with the way the injury bug has been biting us this year, I really doubt there's any long stretch of the season where we are fully healthy and able to make a run. I hope we hold onto our picks and just see how things play out. If we get healthy and start winning games, then great. But if not, the chance of us landing any big name FA aren't that great, so I hope we hold onto our pick and see if lady luck and the ping pong balls are on our our side. It happened once with AD, it can happen again. AD and Simmons would be a better pairing than Wiggins and Towns, in my opinion. That would be the beginning of something really special. We already landed a top 5 player in the league, I'd like to see us get another atleast top 15-20 guy to pair with him. Right now, we don't have that and I think you need that to compete for championships, year after year.

Your standings are completely wrong. Next if you are so confident would you bet it?

Totally man, but 1-2 punch possibly ever. They could be the next Griffin and Gordon. Or Oden and Roy. Or Carter and Tmac. Or Horford and Smith and Marv. Or Kyrie and Waiters. Or Love and Williams. Because if there's one thing I know about basketball, it's that things always work out exactly as expected.

are we about to be 1-9? lol, say we get the 2nd or 3rd overall pick in the draft, would y'all trade that pick, and next year's 1st to get the #1 and take Simmons, or just take someone like Ingram? Personally i'd trade it, because with this team healthy, plus all the money in free agency, and Simmons, we would be a top 5 team.

Do you take the risk of a rookie, or trade for Boogie or some other malcontent AS?

Anyone else think it's crazy to talk tank?

This early in the season? Nope.

People have just as much reason to talk as they do talking playoffs, we are just as likely to do one as the other.

This season is over. The team is not competitive and they are not learning. We are basically spinning our wheels trying to bide time until the Calvary comes. The problem with that is the team will have to play nearly perfect to make any kind of run if they ever get healthy. It's not worth it. Trade the guys you know are not coming back. Try to get as young as possible and give those they guys the rest of the season to be evaluated and the time to learn what Gentry and Erman what to do. The writing is on the wall.

Nope. Team is too soft to bring in a guy like that. You have a coach that has a system that can work with the right players. Go get those players. Even if they are not finished products. You have 70 games to give them a look and you'll probably get a top 10 pick out of the deal. One year of patience could be worth more than any quick fix.
