I mean I think it is hard to not get lost for stretches when you are the 4th or 5th option on offense most of the time and those other guys are Curry, Thompson and Green. Frankly I think if he was being more dominant offensively that would be to the detriment of their team at this point in his development. When he was asked to almost exclusively ISO last season by Jackson it led to him sinking and offensive flow suffering. He is best right now playing at his efficiency and being a cog in the wheel. Which is what we would want. A highly efficient 3 and D guy with good size and athleticism with a good ceiling.
I think Barnes is likely to have a breakout season next year though. 2 seasons in Kerr's system and a contract year.
Not sure about efficiency, they were within 4% of each other in every shooting category. Their TS% was less than 3% apart.
I do agree Barnes is the better rebounder. I'm not sure how much of that is because we have AD/Asik eating boards and then Evans being a very good rebounder as well. But I'm sure Barnes would still be better even swapping places.
I know we all assume that at 23 the player is going to continue to grow and that will be what gets Barnes paid. What I am impressed with is like you said, QPons price to performance ratio.
No doubt we got Qpon on an absolute steal but that's no reason to act like Qpon is as good or better than Barnes when that's not the case. Barnes is a lot more fluid and athletic. He's developed his shot each year in the league which he's on year 3 now not 4 like someone said. I think the sky is the limit for him. He has a nice mid range game and his 3pt shot is getting there too. He can flat out fly up and down court. He can defended the bigger 3s in the game inside and out. There's no doubt that we may show some interest with Gentry really having an inside track to this kids skill and potential. So I think that'll be very telling.
Qpon has never been a good rebounder and that is because he is ultimately a larger guard being asked to play SF. Barnes is a true SF.
I also think one thing to keep in mind is that this is Barnes third season but only his first with a coaching staff that understands him and how to develop him. At 23, after already showing notable improvement in just one year with this staff, and already better then Qpon(although not a large upgrade as of now), he is the type of upside player I would want to take a chance on to be our long term 3rd or 4th option and SF. That is assuming he continues his trajectory next year. Problem with that is he may just end up being the next Draymond for that team and be a little too expensive for us.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't throw a big contract at this guy tomorrow or something, but he is someone that has piqued my interest after being an after thought his first two years.
Except iggy's contract goes until 16/17 whereas Barnes will be a RFA after next season. Lee comes off the books but if they give Green a max I m not sure they will be able to retain him if he commands a high enough salary.
Which also goes to say whether we will be wanting pay Barnes big money. I am not at that point yet.
My issue with Barnes was that I always thought he would be a below average player in Jackson's system. Since Jackson's system was very similar to Monty's, he would have been below average here too.
Obviously, Barnes and Klay have taken off in Gentry's system (for the record, I don't think either has improved their skills much in a vacuum, they are just playing in a system that fits their games better), so yes I would be open to Barnes. That said, I see people saying that if they re-sign Green that Barnes is likely to go. Why? I think they can (and will) pay all 4 guys. Lee and Iggy will be off the books eventually. Those 4 will be the core of that team moving forward IMO

I don't know the logistics of it all in terms of what they can afford under he new cap but iggy stays on the books til 2017. Curry is up for a new deal in 2016 and green is set to get a max. So that is three players on max contracts. Bogut comes up in 2016 as well. He won't command as much but they likely will still need him. I think they can obviously pay Barnes but I think there is a higher probability he hits the market for good then anyone else in their core.
Priority wise I have to believe it goes Curry, Klay, Green, Bogut, Barnes. Maybe you swap Barnes with Bogut based on performance and current market forces but either way if Barnes has a Green type year and the Warriors are worried about other guys as well, sacrificing Barnes seems more probable. Not likely, but possible.
Yea but Iggy won't be off the books for a couple of years and paying Barnes would give them 0 space to do anything else. They would loose just about every valuable piece on that bench. Wouldn't be able to afford Bogut when he is up, Speights will be gone, Livingston gone. I just think with Green getting paid and what Barnes will most likely demand they will be able to offer him but I doubt match what we would be willing to pay.

Any guy that we will have a shot at besides Durant just go compare their numbers and age. Barnes is either right on them with stats or very close while being 5+ years younger. I don't see anyone that we can really get who would be a better option then Barnes.

Guess you'll see if Gentry really has any pull with players.
Barnes has done a hell of a job guarding James this series. His points mite look amazing but shooting 18-38 and 11-35 is not very good at all. Just watch Barnes this game and the defense we could get from him. He's guarding one of the best players on the planet also being the primary guy guarding him but he has the size and athleticism to guard any 3 in the NBA along with most 4s. He's only going to get better at his defensive technique especially with someone like Erman. He shoots one of the best 3pt %s in the NBA among SFs and can get to the basket. He is still very young and in the next 2 years his game could go to a whole new level and be a star but even if he just improves a little he can be a very good player and vital piece on the Pelicans.
I would rather QPON than Barnes
SIGN A SF
His dream might be coming true
