I don't know what to think about Dumars being a part of this team. The problem is his inability to make neutral move. He created a championship contending team ( while keeping a top 3 pick in 2003) by smart trade but he also destroyed his team with bad trade and free agency ( Iverson, Villanueva, Gordon, J.Smith). He has made plenty of good draft choices (Monroe, Drummond, Middleton, Knight, Singler, Afflalo, Stuckey, Amir Johnson ) but he missed the most important one with a number 2 in one of the best draft in history and the possibility to create potential dynasty in Detroit. So I think it's pretty hard to tell if this guy is pure trash or golden GM.
On a sidenote, I remember Dell saying that his model for perfect team building was Pistons 2004, so maybe he'll enjoy to work with Dumars.
can someone give a rundown on his last signings/trades?
Don't forget, it was Dumars not resigning Ben Wallace that broke that title winning team apart. He didn't want to give Wallace a big contract and Chicago did. Wallace didn't last long in Chicago, so it was a smart move on Dumars part, but it broke up the team. Throw in the fact that it really was magic in a bottle (what got Detroit so far), and he was destined to lose.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.
Based on what you guys on this board know about Demps and Dumars, do you believe it would work if Dumars had a position in the FO in which Demps would be his superior, like VP of Player Development assisting Demps with the draft and FA?

I don't think that would work (too many chiefs; not enough Indians). You could almost liken it to Loomis and hiring Ireland to be the head of scouting, but Loomis has the skins on the wall to command the respect while Demps doesn't. But if Joe is desperate to get back down to Louisiana all things are possible.
Yes. I believe it would work. Joe is strong where Demps has been weakest: the draft and major deals. Demps is strong where Joe is the weakest: rounding out the roster. Demps doesnt sign Josh Smith, Charlie V, Ben Gordon to over 120 million in guaranteed salary. He also doesnt turn Jerry Stackhouse and a bunch of no names into the core of perennial title for half a decade.
Demps needs someone to help him draft well in the latter portion of the 1st rd. He also might need to make a major move or two involving EG, Ryno or Reke. Loomis seems smart enough to realize that some added synergy (not to mention eyes and ears) could be crucial over the next 24 months.

May be something, may be nothing.
Well the Pels are the front office is certainly not getting offended by these rumors like the coach from the Wizards is about the John Wall rumors.
We better keep dell. He is a positive piece.
I'm a grinder
