Nothing has to be done this summer, but if we don't talk about things that we 'could' do this summer, what are we going to talk about for the next few months? I'm totally on board with running them all back because I think that is the most likely path to the greatest improvement, and the best long term plan with making a big move next trade deadline or next summer that could really have us make 'the leap' - but it's still a lot more fun to speculate wildly about moves than it is to speculate wildly about Jrue's health and Ryno's fitness. None of us have the knowledge to discuss Jrue's injury in much depth, and Ryno need to, and certainly will, spend the summer getting his legs back. The end.
It's a lot more interesting to wonder if Dallas blows it up then what would kind of contract is Tyson looking for, does Washington think Porter is for real, or are they maybe looking to sell high on him, who is going to leave Portland, if anybody? Toronto is going to make a lot of moves, so is Denver, etc etc. And frankly I'm surprised we haven't started the annual 'we have to buy a late first rounder to get 'X' because he's going to be amazing' threads.
I suppose we could try to speculate wildly about next summer, but it's kind of hard to project a year in advance for most of the rank and file NBA players.

and I can never get enough speculation about MKG. I had really hoped he would show about 10% less improvement this year so he would still be at the heart of the sweet spot of 'with his work ethic he's really starting to blossom in to a cornerstone guy' and 'he may never be more than an energy guy so Charlotte should trade now before his value drops.' Sadly I think he may have gotten good enough that it's now too crazy to even imagine them trading him.

What the chances of us landing Butler and trading for Cousin? About the same as unicorn spearing Kim Jong-un?

I'm with you. Obviously everyone is up for trade at the right price, but we're just not getting that price this off-season. Next summer we'll have a couple guys coming off the books and an interesting free agency situation with the cap jump. Make our move then.

We can always talk about what current guys have to work on to get better or where we think they will improve. Boring, I know, but that is probably what our coaches and FO are talking about right now because it is the easiest and most probable way this team makes another jump next year

We should keep cole at all cost . He's been a huge factor on both ends . I'm for signing asik for a reasonable price , but if he demands too much , let's turn our attention to keep ajinca . But in this case we'll need an additional big defensive backup center . I like babbitt too .

Who is long term in your opinion?
The most overused words on Pelicansreport.com. Wrongly, I might add.

ELITE - (often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

GREAT - notable; remarkable; exceptionally outstanding

These words should not be used lightly

How and Why is he not considered damaged goods now? $11 million a year for the next 2 years will be hard to trade now. When the Cap goes up if he is still hurt won't be a terrible hit to our situation. Stand Pat.

Talking about stuff like Cole trying to extend the long 2 into a 3 is boring. Of course that's what the FO is talking about. They have to live in reality. I think your expectations for the level of discourse on the internet are a little too high. Maybe the Spurs message boards are boring with nothing but talk of consistency and who they will beat next. But I doubt it, I bet it's 20 page threads about signing LA (not as crazy now as it was a month ago...) and if they should sell high on Patty Mills.
I think Butler, Greeen, and Gasol RFA talk is boring too. There is no way that's happening. Talking about a finger transplant for Asik might be less boring if equally ridiculous. But I understand the beast needs red meat. Bring me talk of Cousins trades - anything is possible with the Kings!

With the cap jumping in 2016
can we EXTEND any of our contracts to ensure maximum value?

    Bringing back:
    Davis
    Holiday
    Pondexter
    Gordon
    Ryno
    Tyreke
    Ajinca
    Cole
    Cunningham

    Letting walk:
    Babbitt
    Fredette
    Ayers

    Bringing in:
    Mike Malone

    CHAMPIONSHIP! (in several years)

I disagree. There are three addition by subtraction guys on this roster in our top 6: Gordon, Asik, and Ryan Anderson. Usually, the last step before true contention is the removal of a player widely thought to be a member of the core for pieces that don't look as sexy on paper this usually occurs right before swinging the deal that nets you a player that can push you over the top. I'm not saying it has to happen this summer, but at some point it's going to happen. It's not about raw value, it's about minimizing your weaknesses. Getting ourselves to that Portland/Memphis stage. Then we swing the deal that lands us our Rasheed Wallace circa 2004.

When can free agents start signing fo next year?

  13. #38
If we could dump Gordon I think Khris Middleton would be a great fit here. Milwaukee might just match anything tho

I'm tired of the too many injuries had this team. A good change will be dump Holiday and Gordon, release the payroll and recruit players who can actually play. And a renewal of the team medical staff would not hurt.

So, guys like Holiday before we got him?

Anybody possibly like Bargnani as a cheaper Anderson replacement if we Anderson is moved and we can get Bargs at cheap contract?

  17. #42
I dont see a need to move Anderson. His value is all time low and he is a really good weapon when he is on his game

People forget how good Anderson was before he had his injury. He showed his value in the playoffs and how important he can be to this team. I think we get him for a steal on his next contract by keeping him. With a full summer of health Anderson will come back as one of our most important and core players once again. His role off the bench is so valuable to us and will come back as the player people have forgotten about.

Cole, Anderson, Holiday and Cunningham were the only guys who has +NetRtgs during the playoffs

I dont think hes untouchable, just dont see this pressing need to dump him for scraps like others. Not saying he's off limits in some bigger deal, but he is a really useful player and could bounce back.

Unless trading him somehow upgrades the starting 5 alot I dont see the value in trading him, our bench is going to be loaded if we have Tyreke, Ryno, Cole, Ajinca

Knowing he shouldn't have even been playing these last few weeks, yet him performing at such a high level, I am very interested to see just what he can do when healthy. Him coming back healthy will be good for at least another 3-5 wins.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Saw that celtics were trying to get cousins, they have a lot more assets. Cousins would fit in nice here if his head is on straight.
