    Monty Williams Defense

Plead your case. What is the merit in bringing him back next year?
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

Well, this is the first time I'll say it seriously, but Monty Williams has to go. The ONLY thing that would give me a seconds pause is if AD himself were standing in my office (I'm Mickey) and said he would not re sign here if we didn't keep Minty.

And you know what, I'd probably fire Minty and just try to change his mind.

Everyone should be sent packing. I am so embarrassed as a fan right now. I've only been watching basketball for ten years and I know you foul in that situation. Monty and the whole assistant coaching staff should be fired. Why in the world I mean why in the world would you not foul there? Anyone, I mean anyone try to explain this. I don't care if we win. I feel so bad for these players having to play for complete morons like that.

Winning cures all ills. Jerry Reinsdorf and Phil Jackson made it work to the tune of multiple titles.

That said, if Monty's best quality is he is your best players friend (because its certainly not coaching), then you have to reevaluate why you are keeping him here.

Minty Williams is a FANTASTIC assistant coach. But he can NOT be making the decisions.

Its debatable wether the person that has allowed to to stick around for so long should be making decisions of this magnitude either.

I honestly believe in Monty's ability to develop players, it's just as basically everyone agrees, his gameday management. Specifically questionable lineups in serious situations, blowing huge leads, coming out ****ty against ****ty teams, and a terrible pace with one of the fastest teams in the NBA.

I have defended monty a lot...but even though the players deserve blame too. This is hard to swallow. But, who would replace him that's an clear upgrade and someone who could realistically take the pels to the promised land?

Oh my god I cannot believe they lost that game. 3rd largest comeback in NBA playoff HISTORY

MONTY Williams is an idiot and must go. God I wish they'd make a statement and send his dumb azz packing tonight. I mean the list goes on and on for tonight's game. I mean it is the most pathetic coached game I've ever witnesssd. Down 1 and he draws up a 3 for Gordon?? Wow. We gave how many offensive rebounds in the 4th??? Yet no adjustments by this idiot. I swear I literally hate this man.

Monty is closing out year 5 and has a sub .500 record. Finding a better replacement won't be hard.

Plus, Avery is at Bama now, so that threat is gone.

Please anyone tell me the last time we were up by ANY amount of points at ANY point of the game and felt like "ok yea we got this no sweat". It's always a threat for this type of crap to happen with this num nuts coaching the team.

So Monty, who was screaming "foul" should be held accountable for Tyreke not fouling?
Monty should be held accountable for Gordon shooting an off the dribble three when we were down one?
Monty should just clear out for Davis but he did and it didn't work. So who takes the blame? I don't see people lining up to say they were wrong there.

This is insane because I don't know if he's the right coach. Maybe he's not. He certainly doesn't seem like one of the few coaches in the league that becomes a real game changer, but the accusations that people fling at him are ludicrous. There have been plenty of them that have validity, and I'm probably just wasting my time here, but why is your first thoughts to something going wrong "how can we blame this on Monty"?

We just had three close games so far against a historically good team that most analysts thought we had no chance against. We were a miracle shot away from getting this one. We aren't even supposed to be here. We wer picked to miss the playoffs, we had meltdowns and injuries like crazy all year and we still managed to persevere. Why can't we just be happy that we've come this far and gave the heavy western favorites a run for their money? It's not like we were ever going to win this series anyways. We made them break a sweat. We got under their skin. Our incredibly young team is learning. Next year, we'll probably play even better, and the year after that too, and you know what? We've got AD here for years. So why are we acting like this one game is the end of the world?

I don't think this is a loss Monty and his coaching staff can recover from. You can't have a total and complete collapse blowing a 20 POINT LEAD in the 4th quarter and have it NOT be mostly on the coaching. I think Monty is too much their friend and not their coach. That may be fine for a veteran team with lots of experience and good BBIQ, but a young team needs someone stronger to hold them together. I've believed for quite a while that Monty is not the guy to get us even to a conference final. He's just not a strong leader , he can develop players well . But his player management is sorely lacking. And so is his in game mgt. Worst part is it's NOT what GS did , it was out total breakdown and Monty's inability to stop the bleeding . That's the sign of a weak coach . I can't see us coming out Sat. with any fire or confidence . We are too young and inexperienced team with a weak coach

The fact that the only coaches with a longer tenure on the same team all have won championships is telling.

Five years is more than enough time.

    Tavares is gone.

C'mon man , It IS Monty's job to make sure his players are AWARE of what he wants !!! And If they are confused and don"t know to LOOK AT HIM . Monty NEVER has control of his players He's a POOR HEAD COACH . maybe a good ast coach . but he does not motivate or get the players to execute his gameplan . And the meltdown started LONG before that incident

This one hurts. Take a day off. Maybe two.

Why didn't Pondexter foul Curry while they were both standing on the 3 point line before Curry shot it?

  22. #22
I will report what I was saying in the gameday thread as food for thought to those saying bring him back.

How can you make the case to Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha's to justify bringing him(or Demps) back?

He just watched his coach and team blow a 20 point lead on national TV in front of his BEST CROWD IN NEARLY A DECADE. The town was buzzing about this team for once and this team just zapped the life out of it. A coach and GM that by insider accounts were already on the hot seat.

How do you convince him to(or whoever his PR person is) stand up to a room full of our media and tell them and our fanbase that Monty is our guy next season if we end up getting swept in this fashion? How many season ticket holders just cancel there tickets right then and there???

  23. #23
Monty just said in the post game that they were supposed to foul curry at the end of the fourth with 9 seconds. Thats on the players then.

Anyone else think it would be funny as heck if we hired Scott Brooks? If Carlisle becomes available this year for a weird reason, it's a no brainer imo.

I don't get the Demps hate. He has made some great moves this season.

In the post game interview, Monty said the team was supposed to foul but the guys on the floorr didn't execute the game plan
