He has, but the asking price was too steep before. I'm sure we've been interested him for some time as well, but we waited until Houston was desperate to make the move.

Morey wouldn't trade Asik within the division unless we offered the best deal. He could dump Asik somewhere else, but we are likely the only team offering a decent asset. We have to offer this asset or we don't get him.
This is really simple if you just think about it for a second before lashing out at Demps. I love the armchair GM's that think they would be playing hardball with Daryl Morey and his ilk and making big moves. You would get laughed out of the league.
Supposedly Houston was trying to unload him last year for a 1st and could not find any takers. Some thought that asking price was too high.

totally agree. houston absolutely had to trade this guy, yet it seems like they had the leverage in this trade

You realize they only get the pick if it's within 4-19? That pick could end up being meaningless.
All it takes is for one other team to also be offering something of value to the Rockets for Asik, for Dell to have to up his offer. Hard to ever say he overpaid unless we know what the market was.

I think people are underestimating our level of desperation. We needed Asik about as much as Houston needed to trade Asik. Again I hate building the team the way Demps has done so, but with the moves the last off-season we have to win sooner(like next year) than later.
The picks loses value because if healthy we'll are going to be in the playoff hunt. Rushing the rebuild mistake IMO. Gambling on Asik giving the rushed rebuild I'm more OK with.

If this Cleveland deal works that we just send Gee to Houston, then no way Dell had the trade parameters worked out more than a week ago. He could not have seen this chip happening.
