This might sound like I am on a high horse here (something I am often accused of), but 4 years ago I was shocked by how little knowledge the average fan had when it came to the game, the CBA, rules, etc. I came to this message board and it was bad. Like, real bad.

I got an opportunity to write for Hornets247, and my only goal was to build that knowledge up and as a site we have sought out writers who could help with this objective. I am not going to give the site all the credit or even most, but Pelicans fans are a hundred times more educated than 4 years ago. If you get a chance, check out posts from 4, 5 years ago on this board. You would be shocked.

We have one of the smartest fan bases now, and that's all I ever wanted. Now I have to look after myself and I would say 85% of the stresses in my life come from people trying to get a rise out of me online. Not worth it. Especially when my main goal has been accomplished.
Well if you won't give credit where it's due I'll do it. Almost anything deeper than raw stats that I've learnt about the NBA has come from Hornets 247 and also from Thebirdwrites. The work you guys put in, (which from the beginning I actually thought was overly extensive for a fan based site that wasn't for profit) for your articles, the how to guides, and the podcasts (which, when they first came out were a bit too deep for me), have been mentally invigorating and enlightening for me, and I've actually gone into conversations and used the info to question the casual fan base mentality and go in a bit deeper.

So in short, Thanks, so very much for all the work and effort you and the crew have put in to educate the rest of us on the NBA ins and outs. I've always felt as I've listened to the podcasts, that you guys have been sneaking us the "good wine", while the casual fan base is stuck with the cask wine stuff. Kudos

I dunno man! Do you see some of the Gordon trades? There still pretty terrible! lol. However, nothing is worst than those Brandon Jennings and Robin Lopez trades.

    The perfect trap.

"I'm not going to allow my putative owner to answer that question, this is an NBA related press conference. Paul Tagliabue and Roger Goodell have collectively sung their praises of Tom and if uh ESPN has a problem with that tell Mr. Skipper to call me at my office."

$50 bucks says Da ThRONe draws him back out after comparing ADs first MVP caliber season to Otis Thorpe or Buck Williams.

Just giving Da ThRONe a hard time. Will miss your insight MM.

Oh also, my gut feeling now is Morrow gets MLE range money from us on Monday. Starting to make too much sense.

I'm thinking the trade will go down Sunday and people will be like, "argh we still got no SF. Horrible offseason." Then on Monday we get Morrow with part of the MLE and drop the BAE on another SF (this part I'm just hoping) and some people will still be like, "Argh. Need still not addressed. Fire Dell, Monty. Sold our future for this trash." While others like me will still rate the offseason as B+/A range.

MM, regardless of the outcome, you are 100% correct on me being a more educated fan. I've started the CBA FAQ from Coon and while it's going to take a minute to absorb it all, I've already understood more of the Tom Penn/Trade restrictions/Salary cap convos then before. I won't try to convince you to change your mind about Twitter (although game interaction was pretty cool), but the work at BSS is exceptional and thanks for your contributions! Hope to read something from you soon guy, take care!

Note: The whole cryptic trade post was brilliant, cruel and funny all rolled in to one...

Yeah this makes sense with what MM said and seems like something we'd do. I think fans would complain, but I think Morrow could start at SF with Asik at the 5. I'd be very happy, but I know some people would complain that we don't have a SF. I think his price range is probably 3.5-4 mil. I couldn't see more than 4.5

    MM,

Are you happy with the trade?
That's all I need to know.

    Thanks

I agrre with you! I feel like the pelicans could sign Lebron James and Carmelo to team up with AD and people on this board would still be upset because we offered two guys the max at age 30!

I stopped visiting the board for several months to get away from the ever-present and overbearing negativity that was going on in January and on. So take a break if you need it.

I've missed it, but what are the details of the trade this Sunday?

    Thanks

Da Throne is the exact kind of guy that I love that this board has. Doesn't agree with the consensus on most, but is never mean spirited and brings solid stuff to back up his belief. They didn't do that back in the day. You can tell Da Throne is a bright guy and loves the game.

Honestly, aside from one or two relatively new people, I would say the basketball on this IQ is almost at the level of the guys I know who work in the league. I would bring almost anybody onto this board into a conversation with those guys and not be worried about getting embarrassed. Go to literally any other board and see if you can say the same.

    Pelicans finalizing trade for Asik

I might agree that giving Morrow the MLE range isn't ideal for us when we still have a hole, but also when you look at the options left out there, there's maybe 2 or 3 guys I'd still take over him in that range, and we don't know what their value actually is. Given that, I think you have to assume Morrow fills a potential greater need long term and then we go next offseason with Gordon off the books at a SF. Not ideal for this season but. Still a solid, solid offseason.

Btw. I'm saving my A+ offseason for when Gordon is gone.

I haven't noticed any change of the quality of posts here and I've been posting here since 2008/2009.

Emeka Okafor - Joe Smith - Carmelo Anthony - Manu Ginobili - Jason Williams

Al Jefferson - James Posey - Aaron McKie - Shaun Livingston

Haha. If I knew that there'd be a thread 50 pages long on it already. I only have guesses based off what MM and others have said, and what we already know.

    Which is?
Does it involve trading Ryno or Rivers?

"Wait. For some reason I was thinking we couldn't sign Miller and trade him without losing our MLE but he would be the same as Roberts. We just didn't extend the QA. Should still have Bird's Rights, right?

So that would make S&T Aminu, S&T Miller, Ajinca, Ely, Babbitt. That covers Asik's cap assuming Aminu gets anywhere near what he was previously.

    So my guess is:

Bucks Get Lin, Aminu, Miller, Ajinca plus cash and our 1st.
Rockets Get Cap Space, Ely, Babbitt (they could technically go to Bucks too if they cared)
Pelicans Get Asik. Keep MLE / BAE."

This is what I came up with last night. Have no idea how much is actually true, but does make some sense from a sniff test. But based off MM saying he doesn't know the exact pieces I have to wonder what he exactly said in the code. Could be the Miller and Aminu parts are off, and the Bucks part.

I think Ely, Babbitt, Ajinca, Asik are easily known.

Lin makes a ton of sense in a 3 team trade, especially for the Bucks and when you consider trade talks about moving Lin have went dead quiet (why are the Rockets not concerned with moving him? Because they have the trade lined up.)

The biggest leaps in the code are Aminu and Miller. Could be dead on or completely wrong. Double Jet Li and Nothing can be read a ton of different ways.

Edit: MM knows some of the pieces. I'm guessing he knows the main pieces but doesn't know the filler contracts which can change a few things.

    I'm guessing TD = Tony Dorsett = # 33 = Ryno....

You can still have poor quality of posts despite how informed or intelligent the poster might be. People here now understand advanced stats at least a little more (much less acceptance of per36 numbers for low-minute players, for example) and a large portion of active posters now know CBA basics. Some use this knowledge poorly, but, hey, at least the knowledge level has increased.

MM and the BSS crew have a lot to do with that imo. Don't forsake us MM

Just discussing the level of BBIQ on this board it may be the highest of any of the many boards that I've ever posted on. If you have an opinion it better be well thought out. Some times I don't care for the way people disagree, but being here and BBS has raised my understanding of the game significantly especially the advance statically part of the game.

I'd hate to lose MM diligence and insight, but would completely understand and respect a decision to step away. When something is a passion and it's no longer rewarding something has to change.

  25. #1275
If MM is leaving, who's stepping up? Mason?
