Thread: Pelicans finalizing trade for Asik

  1. #1201
So, on Mike and Mike this morning (Coach and Cris Carter subbing for them), Mark Stein was on, and he mentioned the Asik trade to New Orleans. He said that LeBron is the main hold up on everything. The theory goes that if LeBron goes back to Miami, then Bosh doesn't go to Houston, and whether or not Bosh goes to Houston affects the mathematics of their subsequent moves. So, until LeBron makes his choice, everything else is on hold.

    SO,

    First line = Ajinca
US senator ... Rubio..Sessions..or ROBERTS (there is a Rivers but she is a Washington State senator, not US)
    Warren Moon is Houston
Blank Blank Blank ... Ely, Babbitt, ?
    Blank Blank ?
    Elway Denver
    Nothing double is Darrell Auther
Jet Li is our 1st round pick from the original trade
and I guess the Babe is Asik

SO my best guess goes something like this?

Pels in Asik, Auther (buy out?)
Pels out Ajinca, Ely, Babbitt, Roberts, #1 (it reads like we keep the 1 but I can't see how unless it is returned for taking Auther)

Denver in Roberts, Ajinca, and #1 for helping
    Denver out Auther

    Houston out Asik
Houston in Babbit, Ely, filer ??

Hey I gave it a shot
My biggest question would be, where is Lin going? Houston Isn't giving up a first without moving him.

I'm not even sure Denver has the cap to take him on, but even if they did, why when they have a PG already?

Would that not seem about right thought? Think about your own life.

When we bought our house, we were under contract to buy the house but it was pending inspection and a few other things. If we are under contract to land Asik, couldn't it also have stipulations such as the move has the right to be terminated (before paperwork is sent to league offices) contingent upon something being met (in this case Bosh to Hou)? This is why I do not think Houston loses face if this deal does not go through.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

The only first involved in my scenario is the one the Pels had included in the original report about this trade.
It's that the Hornets unashamedly quit so quickly in Game 4 after fans in New Orleans showed up this season with greater regularity than the team could have ever dreamed, shaming misinformed know-it-alls like me who kept telling you that local residents couldn't possibly invest their time and money into something as trivial as rooting for the local basketball team while still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. - Mark Stien ESPN

When we made the trade, no one was talking about Lebron to the Cavs or Bosh to the Rockets. They can't back out now, and they won't

Alright, the guesses were fun, but they are WAY off. I feel like if it keeps going this way that people will be disappointed when their "decoding" doesn't happen.

    Two things:

    1. I don't know the exact specifics of the trade, just most of it
    2. In the initial message, I said it will make sense on MONDAY. Remember, the trade will go down Sunday

Please don't continue if it just gets you worked up and mad and will take it out on me. Just have fun with it. It will make sense on Monday, but it is not as intricate as some of you are guessing.

You are right, at the time, Houston had either Melo or Bosh in their cross hairs, and Lebron at the time was 90% certain to return to Miami, but all those players’ fates were tied together, and many teams had their fates tied to those players. Nevertheless, the question now is why would the well-informed media fabricate a story about the Asik trade?

I am like you; I just want this to be over already.

Is it a sign and trade featuring Lance Stephenson, MM?

Was wondering about the Monday thing... Another trade or are we signing someone else?

    It's probably what's been discussed.

I'm curious about Monday too though. I assume the trade will keep the MLE or LLE and we will use that to sign someone by Monday.

Well here's my main question. Will we be satisfied with the results of the trade on Monday? Now, I know that on this board we love to freak out alot, but will it solve more than just our need at C?

Thats why this has become one of my favorite threads ever - it shows how people think, interpret things, etc. Just a ton of fun seeing inside the minds of people, especially as we all wait out this frustrating 2 week period

I don't think everyone will be satisfied and I don't think everyone will feel comfortable with all our needs being settled. I will be, but that is mostly because I think the Asik addition is huge.

If we had never heard anything except Patric Young and Russ Smith, this trade would have blown people out of the water and got people hyped. But people already have come to terms with Asik, so now all they are thinking about is what we are losing and/or the SF's we are not getting.

It's the way our minds work, I get it. But if people some how were able to forget we agreed to trade for Asik, they would be blown away on Sunday. But now, people will just nit pick and totally forget that we got a close to ideal guy for this defense.

How can this be a cypher session without a single alphabet deal? Like numbers corresponding with the same letter.

Nice one! Today we are very "immediatist", want to have everything a couple of clicks away from us, and don't have the ability to wait for things anymore, myself included.

At least this guessing game has kept us from freaking out even more, delivering some fun!

Just shows how some people listen just to respond, rather listen to comprehend!

    Great offseason》

I just went back and read all the codebreaking and felt like this guy:

I mean, think about the price tags we have seen in FA - 15 mil + for Hayward and Parsons. 60 mil total for Gortat. If you would have seen the contracts somehow before FA started and knew we couldn't trade or stretch Gordon, you would have likely thought the chances of making a significant upgrade were slim to none with less than 7 mil in cap room.

But instead, we are going to walk out of the summer with one of the top 5-8 players to switch teams and some new, young blood to boot.

It's all based on your perspective. If you already think of Asik as a part of the team and now are just nit picking the edges, you might be disappointed, but if you can step back and look at it as a whole, I don't know how you can be.

The disappointment will never truly be gone.... Until we get an inflatable mascot. Then, everyone will be happy. Everyone. In the universe.
