Only reason I wouldn't consider Hibbert is because of price. He played awful during the back end of the season and in the playoffs, but Hibbert is a damn good player. He clearly wasn't "there" for whatever reason, but I don't think that's truly who Roy is as a player.
Still an awful rebounder and we need rebounding badly with aminu out of the picture
The list of 2015 potential FA centers includes:
Hibbert
Robin Lopez
Brook Lopez
Pau Gasol
DeAndre Jordan
Chandler
Mozgov
Asik
Perkins
Al Jefferson
Enes Kanter
So, long story short - the market will be far stronger at C next year, which tells me that Asik wont get overpaid like Gortat just did (where he was the only good starting center) and that even if we lose him, there are other options

Hibbert is not as good a fit on this team as Asik. Hibbert is probably worse offensively, and much worse rebounding the ball.

Centers that will be firmly entrenched someplace...
Andre Drummond
DeMarcus Cousins
Jonas Valanciunas
Joakim Noah
Marcin Gortat
Andrew Bogut
Tiago Splitter
Jahlil Okafor
Chris Bosh (?)
Derrick Favors (?)
Larry Sanders (?)
Greg Monroe might be a center outside of Detroit. Somebody might pay Spencer Hawes way too much.
MM will explain it better. Basically we can go over the cap to resign Asik if we have his bird rights.
EDIT: found this:

For players, having Bird Rights means a lot more flexibility in contract negotiations -- in most cases, players stand to make much more money re-signing with their own teams, rather than leaving in free agency.

Yes. It also means we can go over the cap to offer him that money, IIRC. We don't have the league-mandated ability to match any contract offered like a RFA. But since we can offer more money than anyone and go over the cap to do it. It shouldn't be a big deal unless someone offers him a deal that is higher than what we are willing to pay.
