Tucker is the perfect guy though, 3pters, rebounding, defense, low usage.

One of my favorite player ascensions. Went from being obscure to a solid, quality player.

    My Selection:

    SF:Tucker, Thabo
    C: Okafor, Blatche

If we add either of these guy's next season I will be very happy.

    Tucker or Bruce Bowen?

    Exactly!

I had no idea Tucker was in and out of the league like my suits are to the cleaners. I wonder how much of him coming on is him playing on a mediocre team, and how much is him learning his lessons and is ready to take his game to the next level.
If you Jimmer it, they will come.

When a guy is a top pick and stinks we give him the benefit of the doubt until eternity.

When a guy comes to success an unconventional way, we always wonder if it is a fluke.

Guy has played well the last two years. Dont matter how he got here. He is here and playing well. Evaluate him on his play, not on how he got to this level. That is how I see it.

You are right, he is back in the show after spending time abroad. He wasn't given the luxury's of a Darko, Kwamee, or even Ajinca (who spent time abroad). But as stated in the article do you really want to give a 3 year deal to a guy who is finally coming along this late in his career? I don't, but thats just my opinion.

I think we are one of the only fan bases that treats 29 yr olds like they are a step away from Social Security

Look at how many 30+ year olds were big in this years playoffs. Heck, 35+ yr olds.

Cant just get a bunch of 26 yr olds and hope they blossom together

Can't get a bunch of 29+ year olds and hope the light finally comes on either though.

  11. #136
If the light hasnt come on at 29, they arent in the league though, so that isnt an issue.

Then its back to your issue of having them gel. You could be getting your hands on the next late bloomer like Bruce Bowen, or you could be getting another late bloomer like Jamario Moon. Either way that long a contract on a guy that old doesn't seem prudent.

    29 is not old..

When i was 18 29 was super old. Now i'm 25 and 29 is not old at all. Actually it's better than being 20. Still young. Spring of life. Yeah.

Thank you. As I pointed out, Bowen did not start his peak until 31. Lasted until 35.

Look at the playoffs this year and how many guys were good contributors into their LATE 30s

Would I give an Iggy contract to a guy like Iggy at 29? No. But role players getting paid role player money can continue to live up to their contracts into their late 30's, let alone their early 30s.

And with a guy like Tucker, he has less miles on his legs than some 26 year olds. I mean, he and Deng are about the same age but they are not close to the same age mileage wise.

It's a risk all things player personnel wise are risk. You are against it and I think people should respect it. Can't just sight Bruce Bowen and expect it to work the same. With that said I'd gladly take Tucker at that price.

Nobody can know the future and no two players are alike, but I just dont like the idea of 29 or 30 being ancient when there are so many guys in their 30s producing at high levels in the playoffs.

I would prefer more detailed arguments against a player than just citing age, because that is not an argument when some players X age are good and other players X age are bad. If that is true, you can't use X age as an argument for either.

My worries with Tucker would revolve around his transition offense and his tendency to sometimes be turnover prone. Not age. That is not an argument for either side.

While I respect your opinion, miles are miles. 1.60934 kilmometers in Europe are the same as a mile here in the USA. The guy still played basketball (albeit by different rules), so the body might be less banged up, but not by much. If you are looking for him off the bench, give him those 24-27min off the bench fine, but don't pay him that much for it. But maybe you are looking for Anthony Parker (somebody who is just good enough).

I think you misunderstood. Tucker played a total of 64 games in Europe over the 3 years he was there. They dont play nearly as much. Combine that with his last two seasons in PHX and he has played as many minutes in his last 5 years as Deng plays in 2 years. He has less than 7000 minutes as a professional on his legs.

Oh well that is something. I was going off of his wikipedia page that reads from 07'-12' he played on 8 teams on 2 continents. Knowing that he played so few games over that span of time does make a difference.

Tucker on this squad and everyone staying healthy = 6 seed or better.

I tend to agree. And if you can swap out Gordon for a quality center either next yr or the following summer and bring back Morrow, you are looking at a title contender in 2016-17 as AD starts to peak.

Is there any benefit to using the MLE before we drop Gordon and get cap space or an expiring (assuming we can). If we want PJ tucker on this team, and we can trade EG away... is there a benefit to doing 1 before the other?

It would be better to sign Tucker using the MLE, then dumping Gordon if possible. Then, we could use the cap space created. Tucker cant retroactively count as used cap space. I am 99% sure on this, but this is one question I was planning on asking Larry Coon this weekend on the podcast.

Great question - happened to think about the same thing myself this morning.

Thanks for the response. I figured you couldn't retro-act an "exception" to the cap, but I wasn't sure. Can't wait for the Coon podcast!
