I really don't understand why we are trying to get rid of Evans, he and Monty must really not be getting along.

Because they have Wilson Chandler and Galo on the same team.

But, to keep a young player with potential for a little over the league minimum seems like a no-brainer regardless of position.

My theory is that Dell can't even get an expiring for Gordon, so he knows he has to keep him. Now, he is looking to see if he can get something positive for Evans - specifically a SF or C. For instance, if Evans helps him get the assets to acquire Asik, he does it. I don't think he is trying to just dump Evans. I think he is willing to move him if he can net something positive because he can't get anything positive for Gordon.

I don't understand that for a couple of reasons. First, we just signed him. Second, we overpaid him to get him (to outprice the Kings and other teams), so it should be understood that his contract will be tough to unload. If true, it makes me wonder what Dell's plan is for this team. It seems as if he just wings it and if it doesn't work, move on to something else.
I understand what Dell is doing. He knows we can't keep Gordon and Evans because it hamstrings us too much with cap. He'd most likely rather keep Evans but if he can't move Gordon that leaves the only option of moving Evans. No matter what the "media" says about Evans contract I think there would be some takers on him, when you look at all his advanced stats he's basically playing at his ROTY level if not slightly better. The question is whether Dell can get enough value or he rides out the logjam at SG.

I do think if we move Evans that means we stop actively trying to trade Gordon. He will most likely be here until he opts out or the following year.

They still have Quincy Miller and Randolph as well both signed through next year if I'm not mistaken. He was the only one up this year at a position they had 5 players at.

Let's put it this way. I'd rather lose Monty than Evans, TO ME Evans can be a part of a championship team.

Before, I bet teams just wanted to see if Gordon could stay healthy, now they're wondering if Gordon is even good enough to warrant paying him that much cheddar.

This is my thought exactly. But to me that still doesn't mean we should give up on Evans.

Just because you trade a player, doesn't mean you gave up on them.

    +1

"I don't know if people know — I dislocated my pinkie finger. And [Tyreke] told me, 'You wanna go home or you wanna be here?' I want to be here. And he said, 'All right, then go tape it up and let's play. Let's go. We not stoppin' at no stores. Straight gas. That's what we do, just keep going.'"

No idea how that relates to my statement, but I agree.

Again, I think you have two somewhat redundant players and one is viewed as a negative asset, so the logical next step would be to see if the next one could net you positive returns. They might both be shopped, but I believe Dell is expecting far different returns on each item. Neither will be met, and they will both be here on Friday.

Lol no no. I just would rather lose Monty than Reke. I don't think Monty is the answer by any means I just don't think he's the spawn of Hell.

Basically, let's stop trying to trade Evans.

What if you can get Asik for him? Even then? Under no circumstance should he be moved?

I personally wouldn't move Evans for Asik.

Nope. I'd move Gordon for Asik but not Evans. Asik gives us defense and absolutely nothing else and might actually kill our offense as bad as Aminu does. I'm not very high on him with his awful contract.

I dont think we have to knock Asik to build up Evans. One might be more valuable on this team, but it wouldn't be a huge difference either way. Asik is more than "just a defender" and his contract is not horrible per cap purposes. Yes, Benson has to pay a huge sum, but he only counts for 8.3 mil against the cap, and he was a 12+ million dollar player production wise last year IMO.

What Asik gave Houston last year was very similar to what Chandler gave us in 07-08. Just sayin.

  23. #223
Yea I've seen a lot of Houston games last year and he is very good. Pair him with a guy like Davis and the frontline defense will be out of this world. Plus, he is actually above average to good on pick and roll offense. I've always liked him. The only problem they had last year, was that there was no one playing beside him that can play any lick of defense. Not only beside him, but Houston was terrible on defense on the perimeter last year.
